...you care?

..any thoughts?

...come on everyone there is nothing NOTHING better than a bunch of oldies pontificating on youthful things

From 18-30 was a major part of my life ( i preffered clubbing to seeing bands for eg) but never really liked the corporate super club thing much

I think the ever-wonderful Ms Garret sums it up nicely at the end of the article:

"For every big venue that is closing, I suspect that somewhere a new underground night is beginning. Just don?t ask me where, because I?m too old and out of touch to know. Which is exactly how it should be."

If they have no cash, they need to be more creative. Went to many impromptu raves !! Health and safety would have a fit at the derelict old buildings and squats we would utilise ....The "Pop Up" phenomena is not new !!

You could only get decent house and garage music by going "underground".

A lot of the same people but Beat Route was earlier and more deck shoes, 'Flip' type place and relaxed door policy, the Wag was more Zoot Suit more yuppie feel to me, never liked it that much

I arrived in Ldn in early summer '95, spoilt for choice tended to cherry pick 'nights' rather than a club per se.

The ones that I remember as I type...

Club For Life @ Gardening Club

Renaissance @ The Cross

Clockwork Orange (post Ibiza crowd) @ The Cross

Oakenfold @ Velvet Underground

Sasha & Digweed @ MoS

Mr C @ The End

Brian Norman 'Fresh n Funky' @ Various (worked with his girlfriend so went to them a lot)

If I could've been in Ldn at another time it would've been Danny Rampling @ Shoom Club in the late 80's, hard to beat the early days of acieeeeeed... :)

Oooh numbers, you've reminded me of a few I forgot... :)

And there was one along Picadilly down in the basement, about half way along on left hand side going towards Green Park, anyone know?...

I was a regular at the Round House Old git. But love the Ibiza scene .

Was there 10 years ago but did not go to any Of the clubs.

Fat boy slim , Carl Cox and others who I couldn't name.

Like trance . Drumming, tripping lol

Too sensible now.

I once said I would never get old (or die)

Well I ain't dead yet. :)

ditto RD you have reminded me of some too, the nights rather than the club. We must have crossed paths I'm sure ;-)

just remembered another in Grays Inn Road, Holborn end, basement. Few more in Brixton that I had forgotten about too.

    • Not only can he turn olive oil into Vermouth, but also water into a wine. A true miracle worker.  I wouldn't say a wine shop sells a wide variety of things - and there are two right next to each other.  And once upon a time, upmarket pizza shops were very specific. So were burritos etc. They're clearly becoming mainstream; we should consider ourselves lucky to be witnessing this exciting upward trend within our lifetimes and on OUR HIGH STREET. We can tell our grandkids that we remember when there was no internet and no empanadas.  I'm sure that if the family empanada people have a good business head, they'll be able to ride this wave of competition, just like Bruno has.
    • Very economical. Are you available for events? I've got a gathering of 5000 coming up soon. What could you knock up with two little fishes and five loaves of bread? Cod in breadcrumbs? Fish finger sandwiches? Spanish-style croquetas de bacalao with a Romesco sauce? It's BYOB for beer, so there's no need to worry about that and I've managed to do an unbelievable deal on water and wine. Drop me a DM on here or ask for Dave or Jesus (pronounced 'Hay-Zooze') in The Herne, left hand side of the bar.
