david_carnell
Cheap steak is not going to be enjoyable.Franklins is the best locally I'd suggest. Jeremy
Andersons on Bellenden Rd sometimes open in the evening and do a "steak frites"... worth checking out. Otta
Does the amount you pay for something somehow affect the taste these days then? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/74184-steaks-in-dulwich/#findComment-899083 Share on other sites
jacks09
It's a good indicator of meat quality Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/74184-steaks-in-dulwich/#findComment-899085 Share on other sites
david_carnell
Otta Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Does the amount you pay for something somehow> affect the taste these days then?I meant it was a false economy to buy cheap steak. You knew that....Although most psychological tests show exactly that. Tell someone it's expensive wine and they'll tell you it tastes nicer than the same wine described as ?5 a bottle plonk. Otta
Indeed, and that's what I was thinking of.But I think a better question here would be "where can I get a steak that isn't overpriced" rather than "cheap". Jeremy
You'd certainly hope that a more expensive steak is better than a cheap one! You can sometimes get a cheaper cut (bavette, flatiron, onglet) etc for ?12-?15 and it can be good, but it ain't gonna be the same as a nice ribeye from Hawksmoor, is it? Otta
Fair point. DC used the word and I assumed it was from your OP. My bad.But I do think you'll find a lot of unreasonably priced food around ED, and this is not me saying "go to wetherspoons it's as good as Franklins".Anyway, hope you get a good steak, report back. Jeremy
If by "the likes of me" you mean people who don't enjoy restaurants... you're probably right! DaveR
http://thehawksmoor.com/locations/seven-dials/On the basis that even a cheapish steak will cost you ?15, worth spending ?30 at Hawksmoor and going half as often (whether that's once a month or once very few years). It is that good.Closer to ED, tho still not really local, this place is excellent:http://www.santamariadelsur.com/Actually in or near ED I'd go with Franklins, or the Palmerston. Siduhe
Palmerston for me too, or Joannas in Crystal Palace (short hop on the 363 and you can get a pretty good cocktail to go with your steak). Jeremy
Otta - depends on the cut innit. Maybe around ?20 for a sirloin, ?25 for a ribeye? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/74184-steaks-in-dulwich/#findComment-899271 Share on other sites
TheArtfulDogger
I thought this was going to be an exciting thread about vampires in East Dulwich ...but sadly proved wrong.....noticed tonight that the French restaurant on lordship lane does skirt steak at ?12 with chips... Maybe an option especially if marinaded well and cooked properly... Mick Mac
A different twist is Yama Momo where you can get fantastic melt in the mouth beef, although Japanese style obvs. otherwise I'd say Franklins or Palmerston too, but to be honest there isn't a lot of choice other than that. where did you go in the end and how was it?
