With all the talk of the economic downturn and how it's one rule for the politicians and one for us, ask yourself one question.

Have I really got that bad a lot?

Now I understand perfectly if you think "what business is it of his", because at the end of the day...it isn't any of my business.

We also find ourselves being done over by the authorities/establishment/Law such as "was that parking fine justified" or having planning permission turned down.

I was always told that no matter what you're going through, there's always someone going through a lot worse. The clip you're about to see is a very serious case of this. This is a very serious case of being done over by the authorities that I don't think any of you will have to suffer in your lifetime even though at some times it may feel like it in an abstract way. What happens at 0:43 is shocking (just look at the look on the poor victims face) but what happens at 1:15 is quite frankly horrific.

Don't watch it, I beseech you daizie.

It dis nae matter anyway, as my imaginary Scottish Grandfather never used to say.

Wise words Tony, it isn't for the faint hearted. Although if you really want reminding of how small your problems and inconveniences are I'd pay particular attention to the times in the clip that I've noted.

It's barbaric in it's cruelty towards an innocent.

    • I agree with your sentiment, however you are mistaken about the Dulwich Estate. Their sole purpose is to make as much money as possible to give to the schools they support, as well as the almshouses and other historical buildings. They do not care about social housing (except subsidised housing for teachers of the schools), refreshing the area, low-rent studios, charming but affordable pub, etc. While they are a charity, their purpose is very constrained/focused and whatever they do with this site, it has to make money for them. It's not that they're being nasty or stingy, it's just what their statutes tell them they have to do. Note that I am not defending them, but knowing the above helps understand why they do what they do, even if sometimes it seems to go against the wishes of the local community. They are not answerable to the local community, and their only oversight is the charity commission and the courts. And of course, like all bureaucracies (esp those with limited oversight), they look after themselves very well.
