Sue - it's not by SteveO - it's by Ernest Hemingway. It's was his response to a challenge and is incredible. The fact it might invoke emotion in others is sort of the point.

Exactly, and how the reader's mind 'sees' things. Wiki cites an example where an unwanted pram is advertised for sale, then it turns out that, unexpectedly, twins were born, hence no need for the previously bought single pram...

    • Wow!  Is this the remnants of a wood pigeon?  We occasionally see the feathers following a kill but only once have I seen the hawk in the garden and certainly not like your experience.
