HSBC Dulwich Branch Is Closing

I've just received a letter today from HSBC informing me that they will no longer be trading from their Dulwich Branch as of January 2016. The nearest branch will be Peckham Rye.

And to think they recently increased their cashpoints to three to meet demand. Backward thinking from 'The World's Local Bank"

I know , it's always busy too but they said due to the increase in telephone / online banking etc that they are closing their branch .

That's annoying. I bank with them. I wonder if another bank will take it over or if the building will be used for something else. I suppose with a branch in Peckham, its not the end of the world.

And yet Barclays maintain a branch in the Village, on Lordship Lane and in Peckham.

Would prefer Waitrose to use the space and buy out Co-Op and have a decent sized store .

Seriously though I changed from NatWest in Peckham to HSBC since the latter is on my doorstep more or less just for HSBC to be closing down from January meaning I end up traipsing to Peckham as I did originally . The irony .

That Dulwich branch of Barclays, does it actually provide useful services? I think it has no cashpoint and is only open 28 hours a week.

It's two branches in Peckham. The existing one at the Peckham Rye end of Rye Lane and the former Woolwich branch opposite HSBC.

Both Barclays and HSBC have been closing branches or reducing hours. Forest Hill Barclays no longer opens on Wednesday and HSBC recently closed in Penge.

As for the Village Barclays, it could be debated that the customers are affulent enough to keep it a viable branch, despite not offering an ATM. That could be down to our friends at the Dulwich Estate.

I had the same letter. Been with them since it was Midlands. Although I no longer live in ED, so not really a big deal for me, but yeah always seemed a busy branch.

I don't understand why people need a physical branch - I have visited mine once in the last year to cash in the Travellers Cheques I found when clearing out my Dad's estate.

Southwark Council has exercised derogation from the new 2015 planning legislation.

66 Lordship lane is now part of a "protected frontage".

This means that conversion to A3 usage might be difficult.

No coffee shop.

I bank with First Direct, and I use that HSBC branch to pay in change and sometimes to get change for floats for http://www.thegooseisout.com gigs.

I don't particularly want to lug loads of heavy change to bloody Peckham :(

When dealing with First Direct - you can pay in/get change and sort out most transactions at any Post Office.

Most banks now offer a basic banking service at the Post Office. I've been able to withdraw cash at the new Costcutter PO by the library.

Since around 2013 - I've deposited cash at various POs a few times.
