That looks like it. We saw the fireworks from Ladywell, but didn't realise it was related to the motorcycles. I don't think they came through Ladywell, since the eastbound traffic through Ladywell tends to hit a bottle neck at Lewisham High St.


We saw a few on Lewisham High St heading towards Catford on our way home. I guess they were stragglers by that time. I'm sure my daughter would have been terrified if they had come through the neighbourhoods. However, don't be under any illusion that would have stopped her trick-or-treating. The power of free sugar over children is QUITE persuasive!

I've had a read through the online reports and found a few of the guys on instagram and twitter. They certainly aren't as young as I expected (28-34) and really should know better by now, some being fathers etc. No helmets, riding on the pavement and not giving a toss whether anyone on the pavement gets hurt. There were so many tiny kids where I live having to dive out of the way into front gardens and a fair amount of abuse hurled when anyone gestured for them to slow down.

On another note, the firework thing is incredibly dangerous too. On saturday my sister's house was set alight by a stray firework, 80% damage and now they have nowhere to live.

I think the police will be able to identify some of those involved by number plates..


As well as fines and bans I would (but it's not up to me) have their bikes put through the crusher.


Would seem fair to me.

Article in the Evening Standard tonight saying they stole petrol from a station in Streatham en masse. The police are looking at CCTV footage apparently. Take a look at their facebook page UK Raise It Up - lot's of people telling them how stupid they are!

Apparently they can't use any of the legitimate dirt tracks in the South East and want one on their door step. Twunts. It's risible that they think that having had their social media exploits backfire so badly (its simple to work out who they are now) that they're trying to turn this round with "an imminent press release".

In practice (and assuming the police were not otherwise engaged) it would be possible, using police helicopters as spotters, to 'kettle' the riders, blocking roads to channel them somewhere where they can be stopped. This avoids the dangers of chasing them. Even where they are split up rather than wholly kettled, the impact of their riding will be much reduced on the neighbourhood.


There have been numbers of accidents arising from police pursuits - and these would be exacerbated where riders (although more fool them) do not have helmets.

Is going round and round and round a dirt track, KFC, then back to the dirt track to go round and round some more - likely to offer the same thrill as cruising the streets with a hankie on your face, flipping 'the bird' to, like, the system and stuff? Doubtful.

The thing is, since when did it become the duty of councils to ensure that everyone could access their chosen hobby locally. If I took up hang gliding I'd need to go somewhere with a cliff to jump off, I wouldn't expect the local authority to erect one.

      You'd need to get a proper quote (or three) for instance removing a cast iron bath is a very different job from removing an acrylic one. Again what pipe work will be being joined into - matching old imperial pipes with modern metric ones is different from like to like, as is dealing with a copper or an iron distribution system. The amount (area) of retiling required is an issue, as will be the state of the wall behind the tiles. It may of course all be very plain sailing, or not. Have a first look at plumber recommendations on the relevant pages on this site. If it's all easy then 3 days work may be sufficient. But it could be a week if there are snags.

      Hi. Can anyone suggest a plumber for the job below? Replace bath tub with a shower enclosure, putting pipes to showerhead behind wall, re-titling damaged/removed tiles Also any idea of the costs involved for the labour as we will buy the items required?

      Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
