But do they have Fullers Walnut cake?

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Used to be occasionally taken to Lyons in Streatham in the sixties ..... erm, possibly fifties ......

Probably Fifties..Sue :) There were 2 in Rye Lane. One oposite Primarks one on the right

just before the station (coming from Dulwich)

I was always fasinated by the little heated cubicals with bowls of chips and other food in that were filled

from one side and collected the other side.

And the 'Nippys' were always nice to me when I about 5-6 . Such a sweet child I was. lol.

Foxy.

The Rose is an Enterprise Inns pub. Not sure how the people at the Rye will be running it if that is a Capital pub.

However, due to changes in legislation regarding tied pubs, Enterprise are selling some of their pubs and taking back others and managing them themselves or by proxies. The Signal in Forest Hill, formerly the Hob, an Enterprise pub, is now managed by Hippo Inns.

Brilliant. That would really turn the pub around :)

I would have thought the new owners/tenants would want the pub open for Christmas, New Year, as this is probably the busiest and most profitable time of the year. Eight Weeks, they must be doing a fairly big refurbishment.

Pity, I was hoping it would be open for Christmas, as it is the nearest pub to home.

Sidhue, I agree with you completely with regards to the audio message regarding the "Forest Hill Tavern"

Why anyone who is running a business and getting free advertising from TFL for the pub should change the name does seem to be rather unwise.

The only TFL audio that needs to change is FREE Ern road not FRY Ern.

On the P13 the announcement for Underhill/Belvoir Road is always "Bell-voir" Road not "Beaver" Road (which is how I was taught Belvoir is pronounced - at least that's how you say the place/stately home in Leicestershire).

Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

    • Perhaps it needs to be in conjunction with other measures - eg Pathway to Work - and perhaps the question of why there is such an increase in applicants forecast, needs to be addressed. There is also Govt funding for people to use (Access to Work)
    • I believe change is needed but, and this is a big but, it needs to be thought through properly and disabled people consulted on the impact
    • Do you disagree that the projected increase in the cost of providing benefit's is unaffordable, and that change is not required?
    • Today, after pressure from backbenchers, the goverent did a u turn on PIP cuts for the disabled but they are now proposing that existing claimant won't be impacted but new claimants will face a higher barrier to get PIP.  Therefore two people with the same condition and difficulties in day to day living might get treated differently depending in when their condition started.  This equates to an unfair two tier system and seems an ill thought knee jerk reaction. Please contact your local MP to ask them to vote against changes until it is properly thought through and disabled people are consulted on proposed changes.
