Rose Pub Forest Hill Road, is it closed?

Such a shame that this place is closing. I live just across the road, and yesterday there were vans parked outside and people taking away all of the (weird and mismatched) furniture. I think the writing has been on the wall for a while though.

Such a waste of what could be a good pub in an increasingly busy area. When I first moved in I thought this would be my local, but I gave up on it a while back. Once we went to play the Monday night pub quiz, but none of the staff could even tell us if it was on or not and we sat around for ages waiting to find out if it would happen. Another time I arrived with a group of friends, all wanting to order the pies (which were pretty nice), but we were told there was no hot food. Pretty much every other time I went in after that there were glasses over most of the taps and you couldn't even get a packet of crisps (the excuse always being that the delivery day is "tomorrow"). The garden area also has a lot of potential but had become really run down.

Nowadays we use the Herne as its so much nicer, with people using it and good food.

Really hope someone takes the Rose on and makes it the pub it could be.

Being taken over by the people that run the Great Exhibition would be a great result. They did wonders turning a mostly empty tired and dingy pub into a usually busy one with decent food and lots going on.

I live near both the Rose and the Herne and don't really use either (done the odd lunch at the Herne but it's not somewhere to go for a drink), but I might change that if we've got something more appealing nearby.

There's a huge banner outside the pub. It's to be called Watson's General Telegraph. At least I think it is. I went past pretty quickly. I did notice that the bar is gone. The space looks enormous. It's due to open on 28 January 2016.

I can only imagine the 63 and 363 buses will be updating their bus stop announcements in the next few weeks.

Let's hope the busses use semaphore codes and ciphers to honour the spirit of Watson

Maybe there's a special cocktail they could make, only ordered by customers busting arm shapes accordingly

What fun that'd be on a busy Friday nite

It appears that all of the information regarding the "Watsons Telegraph" has the address as Honor Oak Park, when in fact the correct address is "HONOR OAK".

As far as I am aware, Honor Oak Park is the other side of the hill past St Augustines church, on the way to Honor Oak Park railway station.

Is this correct?

Everyone else just has Forest Hill Road, London.

Maybe it's because of the name of the Pub link :)

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
    • Sometimes a shed or other installation has to have written approval from the freeholder i.e. Southwark, Southwark has (or did have) a Leaseholder Association.   Could also come under Anti Social Behaviour Unit.
    • Love Dulwich is great but has a large step in front. We have only been weekdays at Lunch time. Maria's next to Picture House is disabled friendly. Also can reserve table in advance. We did a Sunday lunch catch up with family - there were 8 of us.
    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
