From 05:00 tomorrow, Sunday 6 December, the Elephant and Castle northern roundabout will be removed and switched to two-way traffic, as part of the Road Modernisation Plan.

The work will start at 22:00 tonight, Saturday 5 December and temporary traffic changes will be in place until completed. The following permanen changes will apply to all traffic:

? No left turn from Newington Causeway onto New Kent Road

? No right turn from New Kent Road onto Newington Causeway

? No U-turns will be possible at the junction

Improvement work will continue in the area until summer 2016 to create new pedestrian crossings and new dedicated cycle routes.

In short theyre just taking out the round about. My interpretation is slightly diff to the above...

From TFL weekend travel email:

Elephant and Castle - From 05:00 on Sunday, the Elephant and Castle Roundabout will be removed and switched to two-way traffic, as part of the Road Modernisation Plan. The work will start at 22:00 on Saturday and temporary traffic changes will be in place until completed. There will be no left turn from Newington Causeway onto New Kent Road, no right turn from New Kent Road onto Newington Causeway and no U-turns will be possible at the junction.

Hope this helps :-)

Warning - traffic heading towards Elephant from Camberwell / Dulwich was extremely congested this morning because of the work KalamityKel mentions above...and that was at 7am.

Hopefully these problems will only temporary whilst work to remove the northern roundabout continues.

These are major structural changes to this route in for all road users. Further information and a really helpful .pdf map can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/elephant-and-castle

I might be able to find out from the TFL site but was the E&C area supposed to be working properly under the new scheme today, or have we just entered another stage of the hellish and seemingly never-ending rebuilding? This morning the traffic down Walworth Road was the worst its been in ages and if anything the bit near E&C station looked further from completion than it did last week. Coupled with traffic tailback from Camberwell to Peckham (seemingly caused by something on the other side of Camberwell, heading towards Oval) the 12 bus from Dulwich to Piccadilly Circus took 2 hours this morning.
Guess this is the new 'steady state' of things at Elephant. Personally, I think it's good that they've sealed off South London. With no tube, buses, or car transport, we are one step closer to declaring independence from the rest of the Capital.

Echoing above, was absolutely solid almost back to Camberwell this morning when I passed through. The have opened the intersection to two way traffic, with temporary traffic lights that seems to be on very long intervals.

At this stage, I really can't see how traffic will flow through the new design.

    • Hallo As far as I know  info you have quoted is wrong.  You can phone for an appointment although I have always found it easier to do online. Go to their website for info on how to book appointments Any requests I have made have been reviewed and answered by a GP within 4 hours
    • Nadia did a great job tidying up my very very overgrown yard. (See the before and after photos). I live in New Zealand and my tenants said a neighbour has been complaining about the out of control ivy. Nadia was easy to contact so over WhatsApp, managed to liaise between me and my tenants. Her quote was reasonable for the amount of work that needed doing, and the end result is great! She sent photos throughout so I could track progress. Would highly recommend her to others.
    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
    • Been with The Gardens now for around 30 years and very rarely do I have a problem. I went in to collect a form and mentioned that my leg was hurting and hot- was seen immediately by the Practice nurse who then arranged an appointment on the Saturday with the Extra care service at TJ Centre where I saw a doctor, who then sent me off to Kings for further tests.. I recently booked a flu jab but appointment is in 2 weeks.
