At this festive time of year, older people in society (ME) are sat around at home twiddling their thumbs waiting for something to happen. Often left with just a few bottles of Malbec to keep them going, they find themselves needing to interact with people. Thousands (ME) of people are using local Internet forums to socialise and air their opinions with the outside world, and yet so many (ME) find themselves locked away like a criminal in a prison cell (The Lounge), waiting to communicate (snipe at and ridicule) with newcomers (yuppies) to the area. This appeal goes out directly to admin, to allow these isolated folk (ME) to once more communicate their thoughts with the larger community. Come on its Christmas, how would you feel if someone you loved was locked up in this way? All donations go towards daffodil restoration on GG come spring.

Louisa.

Would someone explain this simple question with a simple answer.

News and gossip, Lounge I read both so why would it matter where you posted?

I cannot see why you are in Siberia as people will read what you post and answer. East Dulwich or the real world? Does it matter?

Get with it Lou.

Everybody knows that for a Christmas appeal to work, you need a visual to tug at the heartstrings of your intended target audience.

A tear stained face of an orphaned child...

A sad eyed face of a lost and abandoned puppy...

Or in your case, a geriatric necking the Drambuie...

Right you lot. Listen, and listen good. Open up your crusty, moth savaged wallets and get donating to the forum. Not because you get a lovely little gold star, nor because you love how useful it is to communicate with like minded folk and share in the joy of living in East Dulwich. No, none of that bollocks. Donate, because if you don't, I won't be allowed back in the main section where I can spread joy and happiness (aka keep you lot entertained on your lunch break). The forum needs your help, so please get donating now, alright?

Louisa.

The old Louisa is dead, I've promised myself and a few others to not steer back into previous conversational favourites of mine, and as yet have not done so. Then someone tries to push my buttons to get me to talk about a topic I have tried to leave behind me. So rather than rise to that, I am back with a completely different take on local issues. I refuse to be drawn on Iceland, class or parents with a buggy. From now on, I want to be taken seriously, any drinks events on the horizon? I refuse to be trolled back into previous topics.

Fail...

Sorry, not prepared to rise to it this time :)

Louisa.

As I said elsewhere (reminded by robbin's contribution).

    • I heard them & our two dogs were extremely upset by it..  bad enough during the evenings but at least can have music on to dilute the noise!   Some people have literally zero thoughts for others!!
    • I have signed that petition.  Someone was letting off loud fireworks at about 3 am this morning. They woke me up.   I don’t know where they were exactly but it sounded like they were in the vicinity of Dog Kennel Hill.
    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
