Could be one for the lounge this - it's definitely ED related but is whimsical too - let's start and see what happens

If ED and it's environs were somewhere else what would the different areas be called?

As an example the area at the top of LL near the library has been called the Upper East Side - a NY reference which probably makes:

North Cross RD = Greenwich Village

Peckham Rye = Battery Park.

Dulwich Village = The Hamptons

Anyone else have any NY references and then we could move on to another city.

If there are any artists out there perhaps they could sketch these up as they develop and they might end up being worthwile local artwork?

I like the buildings being named as well - some more dubious than other tho'

Some great suggestions on here but preferably we should have some kind of geographical relationshiop. Bermondsey might be the Bronx to some people but that's isn't going to work on a map.

(Besides I walk through it every day and it's not bad at all. I saw Tobet Maguire looking at some apartments there yesterday as well)

funnily enough I have never had reason to hang a left when I reach that crossroads - I am curious by nature but you are hinting I would be wise not to?

Anyway - back on topic - do we have any volunteers to sketch this out - I think it could be a seller (along with the ED postcards)

Indeed Tillie, I lived on Rotherhithe St (Downtown area)for 4 years prior to moving into ED in 1981. I think the part of Bermondsey I was referring to was the Abbey Road Grange Road St James Road triangle, not at all salubrious!

BTW, when you mentioned, ?faces? did you mean faces in the south London gangster idiom?

    • I personally think is a great idea Bobbly and would love if there was a section for it. I wouldn't offer free gardening under the "for sale" section as I would expect something in exchange and wouldn't expect our cat being looked after for free under the "wanted" section, as an example.

    • I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there  back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?
    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?
