HI,

Our big, black, male cat called Cosmo/Coz(no collar but chipped to Celia Hammond, Lewisham)went missing on the afternoon of the 23rd, he likes a wander but this is way out of character as he loves his food. He's a very friendly, talkative cat, a real character and we miss him terribly. If you've seen anything that might help please let me know on 07809640218 and if you have a garden shed or glasshouse, please have a check.

Thank you, Bruce + Bronwen

Hi and a Happy New Year to all,

I just wanted to say we've still seen nothing of COSMO, the black cat, it's been over a week and we're really worried. We've checked the local vets, put up posters, checked his microchip...so if anyone has taken in a cat for xmas, can they please take it to the vets and check that it does/doesn't have an owner by looking at the chip?... If anyone does see a big, friendly, talkative, green-eyed black cat, please give us a call on 07809640218.

Thank you

Hi

Just a quick message to say that we're still looking for Cosmo, no leads yet, but we're still living in hope. I notice that there seem to have been quite a few cats go missing over Christmas, not sure why that is, but I sympathise with all of you who have lost a kitty, it's a horrible feeling, not knowing what's happened (esp at xmas - kind of ruined ours)and I truly hope that you all have success in finding your little buddies.

Bruce & Bron

I'm very sorry to hear Cosmo is still missing. I know what a horrid feeling it is.

Have you tried putting some of his dirty litter, or some of your dirty (as smelly as possible!) clothes outside? We did this when one of our boys went missing last year and he came back a few hours later. Admittedly he'd only been gone a few days and it might have been a coincidence but if Cosmo has been locked in somewhere over Xmas and is a bit disoriented, it might help him find his way home.

Fingers crossed he's back very soon - and don't give up, there have been cats on this forum returning home after months!

Hi, we lost our black cat on 17-01-16 and after much searching, leafleting all the houses & putting up posters, we found him last night!

My husband went out at 11pm when it was quiet & banged a food tin ,calling the cats name & eventually Spider came running. He was lost quite away from home, very scared & hungry. Thought this might help you look for Cosmo. Try to leaflet as many houses & talk to as many people as you can ( it was hard work but the kids enjoyed knocking on doors asking for their help).Don't just do the closest houses, because chances are he's wandered farther than you think. I really hope you find him safe & well.

Thank you so much, I'm really glad you found him, that's amazing! We have tried everything, but maybe we should go a little farther out...it's been a month now, so we're both pretty dejected and down, but we still have some hope, especially as you found Spider!

B&B

yeah, we've tried everything, I've registered on all the lost pet sites, put posters up, gone door-to-door, alerted the chip company/Celia Hammond/rspca...I can't think of anything else...he's a big, strong, noisy cat with plenty of character, I just can't believe that he's just disappeared of the face of the planet.
  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

just a quick reminder, if you see a big, black cat who looks a little lost, or is begging for food(loudly), or someone you know has taken one in off the street (do please get his chip scanned)...please give me a shout on 07809640218 or pm me. We still haven't given up hope that our wonderful cat Cosmo is still out there somewhere, even after 5 weeks.

Thanks

Bruce & Bronwen

Already done all that & everything we could possibly do, apart from put traps and static cameras out a la Springwatch! He's either lost and living rough, someone has taken him in or he's gone...I just hope it's the first two. He has a chip so if something has/had happened to him, I'd like to think we'd hear about it.
Hey don't give up hope! One of ours kept going missing last year and it ended up a very kind lady was taking her in occasionally. She goes through periods of losing weight for a bit then bouncing back, has a thyroid problem. Your cat looks strong and healthy so he may have just got lost and been taken in for a while. I really hope your bro comes back soon.

Hi Vik,

I think that was for 'Ivan' who was picked up before Christmas and taken to Celia Hammond. He's still there and a lovely black cat by all accounts, so if anyone is looking for a nice, chatty black cat, give Celia Hammond Lewisham a call. RE: Cosmo, I have checked with the RSPCA and he does have a chip, so it's almost certainly not him, but thank you for thinking of him!

B&B

So we got a lead about a very big black cat, seen coming out of Lettsom Gardens (Grove Park, Camberwell)last week, which sounds like a good lead and it's pretty close to us...I spent an hour in the gardens calling his name and rustling a treats packet but got nothing although the weather was a bit poor. If it is him, somebody must be feeding him/taking him in...if you live in that area (top of Camberwell Grove, Grove Park, Grove Hill Rd, Bromar, Ivanhoe), please keep your eyes open for him, he should answer/come to 'Cozzy'.

Many thanks

Bruce & Bron

    • But actually, replacing council housing, or more accurately adding to housing stock and doing so via expanding council estates was precisely what we should have been doing, financed by selling off old housing stock. As the population grows adding to housing built by councils is surely the right thing to do, and financing it through sales is a good model, it's the one commercial house builders follow for instance. In the end the issue is about having the right volumes of the appropriate sort of housing to meet national needs. Thatcher stopped that by forbidding councils to use sales revenues to increase housing stock. That was the error.
    • Had council stock not been sold off then it wouldn't have needed replacing. Whilst I agree that the prohibition on spending revenue from sales on new council housing was a contributory factor, where, in places where building land is scarce and expensive such as London, would these replacement homes have been built. Don't mention infill land! The whole right to buy issue made me so angry when it was introduced and I'm still fuming 40 odd years later. If I could see it was just creating problems for the future, how come Thatcher didn't. I suspect though she did, was more interested in buying votes, and just didn't care about a scarcity of housing impacting the next generations.
    • Actually I don't think so. What caused the problem was the ban on councils using the revenues from sales to build more houses. Had councils been able to reinvest in more housing then we would have had a boom in building. And councils would have been relieved, through the sales, of the cost of maintaining old housing stock. Thatcher believed that council tenants didn't vote Conservative, and home owners did. Which may have been, at the time a correct assumption. But it was the ban on councils building more from the sales revenues which was the real killer here. Not the sales themselves.
    • I agree with Jenjenjen. Guarantees are provided for works and services actually carried out; they are not an insurance policy for leaks anywhere else on the roof. Assuming that the rendering at the chimney stopped the leak that you asked the roofer to repair, then the guarantee will cover that rendering work. Indeed, if at some time in the future it leaked again at that exact same spot but by another cause, that would not be covered. Failure of rendering around a chimney is pretty common so, if re-rendering did resolve that leak, there is no particular reason to link it to the holes in the felt elsewhere across the roof.
