Fellow Forumites,

I thought wander into The Lounge and pass on a URL for a great web site that can save you all money in different way's shapes and forms every day. Some of you would have probably heard of it and be using this guys tips. Some won't.

Basically his site is focused on giving something back to consumer. He gives tips on anything from reclaiming bank fees to saving on international phone calls or broadband to getting freebies on certain products. He's already helped me reclaim over ?200 from my bank in dodgy mortgage "admin" fees!

Anyway I thought we could all do with some money saving tips, so here's the URL: Martin Lewis: Money Saving Expert

Also there was a ditsy sounding Yorkshire woman yapping loudly on the phone (and in my ear) on the train on the way from Leeds yesterday. Although most of what she had to say was complete garbage she did mention this site www.SayNOto0870.com which gives you alternative free or local numbers to companies that try and charge you a premium rate just to call them. Again really quite a good idea!

I would love to hear some future Lounge gossip here on how you saved money from Martins site too! Enjoy.

"Save on booze by drinking cold tea instead of whisky. The following morning you can create the effects of a hangover by drinking a thimble full of washing up liquid and banging your head repeatedly on the wall."

"Weight watchers. Avoid that devilish temptation to nibble at the chocolate bar in the cupboard or fridge by not buying the f*****g thing in the first place, you fat b******s."

    • My daughter lost an earring possibly under the bridge at Herne Hill while cycling on Saturday evening towards Loughborough Junction. It has great sentimental value. If anyone has found it please get in contact. Thank you Don
    • The problem is not generally with the stores or drivers - who generally are doing the best they can and receive peanuts for each package. (Rumored that Evri will pay only 20-30p to a shop that receives/sends a parcel). The problem is the business model of these courier companies that do not invest in infrastructure or depots, but just outsource everything and set "contractor" drivers impossible targets. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/dec/08/christmas-parcel-delivery-drivers-driven-to-the-edge
    • I don’t think that this is a Barry’s-specific issue in the area. I’m constantly having parcels refused for delivery at the InPost lockers outside the Family Store on Upland as well as at the Esso garage by the Rye
    • I was several miles away and I didn't miss it, as apparently didn't lots of others also several miles away. But as I and others reported although we guessed it was fireworks it sounded more like the WWI front line, albeit from a distance!
