Next EDF Drinks - Tonight - 8th Jan - at The Lodge

Recommended Posts

Had a very jolly time last night, so nice to meet a few more lovely people from the forum, but missed others not there. Thanks Georgia for organising, as usual. Oh, no thanks quids, lovely though that sweater is... And I think David Carnell would agree that braces are far too much fun to hide away!

I have looked up the statutes. In 1856 a law was passed allowing Warranted Constables to test the tension of the braces of Labourers to ensure that their loads were appropriately secured. This law has not been repealed.

What was demonstrated last night was a fine example of the law being implemented appropriately.

It was confirmed that David Carnelli's load was appropriately secured, to his relief.

Well done that Constable.

    • A friend of mine was into "skill swap" about 40 years ago. It wasn't within an organised scheme, she just offered services like help with painting in exchange for services received. She upset some people as they carried out their services for a living, I.e. for money. An organised scheme sounds much better.
    • Gosh, that is a blast from the past.  Friends in York were into this, he was an accountant and had things like decorating done in exchange.  Not sure if it was equivalent in terms of hours, and I recall HMRC being interested as it was a way of tax avoidance.   A link for a London wide scheme but have no idea of its popularity: https://www.londonwide.letslink.org/members/index.php
    • Is anyone else having problems trying to register their car for a residents LTN permit for upland road as the council web site only seems to want to allow blue badge holders a permit .
    • Posted around 12 cards 2 weeks prior to 24th December. Had some responses so know people have received them. Had about 20 cards - mixture of hand delivered and via post. After years of 'nagging' by myself and our daughters, we may have cured hubby of spending £4 plus on individual cards for our immediate family  ( when you have 12 immediate family it costs a bomb) Also as the girls state, they get put in the recycling bad at beginning of January regardless of cost.
