James there may be a veggie option for you soon...

I think the lady who runs the Blue Brick cafe is applying for an evening licence and she mentioned it will be about veggie food (either mainly or wholly).

You may want to enquire with her as to her exact intentions.

Don't see this one working I'm afraid, unless it is REALLY good! As far as I know all of the LL curry houses have more than enough veggie dishes to keep even the most ardent meat dodger happy.

Then again I was of the opinion that Jafflong's was a tandoori too far, but that seems to be doing ok.

South Indian veggie cooking is nothing like the bog standard veggie dishes you get in the Indian restaurants round here (except Ganapati) so I think it will do extremely well if that's what it's going to be.

I'll certainly go and I'm not a veggie.

At least its not turning into a KFC or a cheap take out.... hope it works & if it doesn't it would be awesome if a far eastern Thai/Singaporean/Vietnamese type place opened as this is what seriously lacks in ED... (Sema Thai/Thai corner just don't do it for me and the only place I get a take out is Yee Haa in Barry Rd which is good for a takeaway....The Rye do a good Thai green curry but that's it!) ED needs a decent Far eastern eatery to go with the array of Indian cuisine outlets available....

You're completely right, Sue.. Definitely thumbs-up to a south Indian place that can give me my fix of masala dosa. :) Think a few here will be pleasantly surprised by the difference from the standard 'award free restaurant' fayre on LL if it's anything like what the wonderful Ganapati has to offer...

    • My last paragraph was relevant. I was in central London having a meal with family on the same day as the recent large right wing march. The date of the  meal was arranged before it was known about the march, and the venue was convenient for one of my brothers and his partner, who had travelled down from the midlands and had a hotel and theatre tickets booked near the venue. It was just up the road from Trafalgar Square, and my partner and I were seriously concerned on the way there and the way back that we would encounter violent people from the march. Luckily we were able to avoid this, but as I expect you will have read, several police officers were injured, and a friend of mine was amongst a group of counter protesters who were hemmed in by marchers for hours, which was obviously very frightening. The group had to be protected by police before they were finally able to get a safe passage out. Therefore, I don't think my last paragraph was unnecessary at all in the context of when I personally feel unsafe in London. I am not "going through a bad patch", beansprout, not am I "having a bad day ". Nor do I need to "get things off my chest". I am interested to know how you think I have "totally changed my tune"? Could you give some examples from before and after I "changed my tune"? Perhaps you would like to come and discuss your opinion of me face to face? I am very easy to find. I run gigs and Singarounds locally with my lovely partner, and we have organised two Forum Drinks, with a break over the summer.  We will be organising an October meet up soon, so perhaps you would like to come to that, if music isn't your thing? You could take the opportunity to meet some other forum posters as well
    • You know what? Interesting how memories are triggered.. And what memories.. what I love about this forum, are several things.. support, advice,  buy and sell, free stuff.. • Funny you should say that, Sephiroth.   I somewhat oddly still remember passing though Gloucester at the tail end of a cycling holiday decades ago, and getting the feel just from the street activity, cycling through the centre, that I didn't even want to stop and look around.  Tewkesbury, otoh, just up the road, I'd had plenty of time for.   How 'justified' my Gloucester vibes then, who knows?  Chalk and cheese, of course.  Horses for courses. ...
