Will my husband be able to resist posting on the forum on Christmas Day?

Just think of those Wheelie Bins not being emptied over Christmas, the silence of the missing Collectors Lorry and the noise of hobnail boots, just the tap tap tap of the computer, perhaps it might lull you to sleep just this once.

I was interested in the Electric Chair it would certainly help me getting around, I phoned up to ask if it had been used latly he said it was not used for years, I said has it got a seat belt? He said No but its got two ankle straps and two wrist straps. and a heated Helmet. I had never heard of this modle So I am trying getting a lift there to see it, the place is in Wandsworth, he said go down the side of the school.

I'll give you a lift computedshorty!:)

Thank you dazie for your offer, but yesterday I had to take the Wheelie bin out to the footpath, I had the support of it over the solid ice to get it out there, but none to get bsck, I noticed the milkman had left six bottles of milk to get me over Christmas, I could only take three bottles at a time so I held those to my chest, then I went down with a bump on my back, I have dificulty in getting up any time but here I just could not get a grip esch time I tried my feet just slipped, the Bin men saw me and got me up, they said I looked like a tortiose on its back, I had to search for my glasses, I had cut the tips of two fingers, the milk had not broken open. I managed to get back to the house. I left it till later before going out to get the other milk and the bin back in, I noticed that where I had fallen had left a deiced patch so I must have been there some time. I had lost my cap so my bald head got really cold, I had an early night.

Did you not sprinkle some salt where you have to walk? I slipped on to my arse three times before this occured to me. If you do need a lift or some salt i am round the corner :)

Some/many of us will not have MS Publisher so cannot see your card.

It looks as if it may have contained a TIFF image. If so, can you post just the image file (.tif or whatever) without wrapping it up in a Publisher page?

It does help EDkiwi - thank you for that...I wouldn't know how! And Merry Christmas to you too. xx

Computedshorty - thank you for your lovely card...and a very happy Christmas to you too. Looking forward to more of your poetry and "fun and games" in the New Year. xx

In fact, while I'm here...Happy Christmas to everyone (I've no card though - sorry). xx

Oh, and special Merry Christmas wishes to Mark who created this Forum. xx

Umm - I am also a golf widow. That can't be fair. Although to be fair to the husband, he has been a complete star for the last 10 days since our 3rd baby (a boy, after 2 girls) was born and has become a full time housewife (with a bit of EDF in between times). We had a very rocky ride for a while and it all got quite scary.

I know this is not the place for sentimental comments but it's Christmas and I just want to say that I love him to bits and can't believe how well he has coped with everything that has been thrown him. (And I'll leave it to someone else to guess his identify!)

(and incidentally, it will be the baby, not the bin men, waking me up from now on!).

    • Pretty much, Sue, yeah. It's the perennial, knotty problem of imposing a tax and balancing that with the cost of collecting it.  The famous one was the dog licence - I think it was 37 1/2 pence when it was abolished, but the revenue didn't' come close to covering the administration costs. As much I'd love to have a Stasi patrolling the South Bank, looking for mullet haircuts, unshaven armpits, overly expressive hand movements and red Kicker shoes, I'm afraid your modern Continental is almost indistinguishable from your modern Londoner. That's Schengen for you. So you couldn't justify it from an ROI point of view, really. This scheme seems a pretty good idea, overall. It's not perfect, but it's cheap to implement and takes some tax burden off Southwark residents.   'The Man' has got wise to this. It's got bad juju now. If you're looking to rinse medium to large amounts of small denomination notes, there are far better ways. Please drop me a direct message if you'd like to discuss this matter further.   Kind Regards  Dave
    • "What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???" Why is it perceived, Reeves is responsible for doubling the "black hole" to £20b through the public sector pay increases. You can't live beyond your means and when you try you go bankrupt pdq. In 4 yrs time if this Govt survives that long and the country doesn't go bust before then, in 2029 I dread to think the state the country will be in.  At least Sunak and co had inflation back to 2% with unemployment being stable and not rising.
    • He seemed to me to be fully immersed in the Jeremy Corbyn ethos of the Labour Party. I dint think that (and self describing as a Marxist) would have helped much when Labour was changed under Starmer. There was a purge of people as far left as him that he was lucky to survive once in my opinion.   Stuff like this heavy endorsement of Momentum and Corbyn. It doesn't wash with a party that is in actual government.   https://labourlist.org/2020/04/forward-momentum-weve-launched-to-change-it-from-the-bottom-up/
    • I perceive the problem.simply as spending too much without first shoring up the economy.  If the government had reduced borrowing,  and as much as most hate the idea, reduced government deiartment spending (so called austerity) and not bowed to union pressures for pay rises, then encouraged businesses to grow, extra cash would have entered the coffers and at a later stage when the economy was in a stronger position rises in NI or taxes would have a lesser impact, but instead Reeves turned that on its head by increasing ni which has killed growth, increased prices and shimmied the economy.  What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???
