In today's Indy. Who, or what drives you to drink? In the nicest possible way, I'd have to say Keef, but the more honest answer is probably that guy what looks like me, that I see when I brush my teeth. (Careful, he follows me everywhere....).

Them and work. Of course.

The larger pixies. If you look you can see them popping off the top of a newly poured pint. They seek me out and swarm around my head like millions of tiny barmen and offie clerks hissing ?pint of larger mate?? or ?6 for 5 sir?? and will only cease their torment if they hear the sound of a ring-pull or a beer-tap.

Well them, the voices, this twitch and that dam puppet.

Drink drives me to drink... I have a soft drink, and think "No, that really hasn't done anything for me"... I then have a proper drink and it makes me happy, so I have more.

Then I wake up feeling like death and struggle through a day at work... What makes this pain go away??? Drink!!! :)-D

So, see you all at the next meeting then? :-S

Any one see the dispatches programme the other night? It was about how doctors are predicting a massive explosion (no pun intended) in liver disease over the next decade, due to all the people who drink several glasses of wine a night at home. I didn't watch it, too worried about the state of my own liver after a decade of doing exactly that! Driven to it - to answer the original thread - by motherhood mainly. Gagging for a drink by 6pm. (Haven't had one yet this week, turning over new leaf, roll on Friday)

Tell me about it Jah!! THough I often wonder...if there was no work on a Monday, Tuesday, or whenever, would I appreciate that drink I had on the Friday as much as I do now?

On the liver disease front, yeah, I'd have been hiding behind the sofa too Asset! Though deep down, I refuse to believe that a couple of glasses of wine a night can do that much damage to you. This is coupled with the fact the C4 are never ones to do things by halfs, ratings all the way with them. I also think we live in a society where the potential to do damage, either to yourslef, or to others, not matter how remote or unproven, is considered more than justification to legislate against, scaremonger and shout about from the roof tops.

The Times had a front page recently about this, and whilst I couldn't find it, I did find this article, which seems to give a slightly different perspective/hope/the excuse to crack open a bottle:

Not that I read the Times.

sorry, haven't hit the sauce yet, just been one of those days! I was just thinking it would be nice to watch the Bonzo Band live, be a great gig.

Couldn't find My Pink Half of the Drainpipe, so went with I'm the Urban Spaceman instead.

Oh blimey! Fear, I'm a huge Bonzo Dog fan, got all their stuff. They used to play the Bird In Hand in Forest Hill. Vivian Stanshall's a big hero of mine. Saw him once at a Screamin' Jay Hawkins gig many moons ago, dressed in a white suit, beard tied in a knot, in state of enormous intoxication, dancing like a lunatic with some young blonde who certainly wasn't his wife. He seemed to be having a very good time indeed. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
wow, now that sounds like a reason to drink! I only have a greatest hits thing (stolen from me dad), the rest is on the 'to buy' list. Echoing elsewhere, if only we had a Fopp! Sounds like a great gig, and something that would never happen these days (Keef I and I went to a gig recently and you weren't even allowed to smoke! Had to sneak into the gents every now and then. Ruined it). Talking of whom, how about a Bonzo tribute band keef?

    • You literally just edited your earlier reply to remove the point you made about it being “politicians”.  Then you call me pathetic.    I’m  not trying to say you approve any of the ugly right wing nonsense.  But I AM Saying your earlier post suggesting  violent rhetoric being “left wing” was one-sided and incorrect
    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic.
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
    • You don’t think there are right-wing politicians fanning this with rhetoric? Really?
