Hi all!

We have recently moved to the Forest Hill/ Honor Oak area and I am finding it really hard to get any information about what's on for Mums and babies/toddlers around here.

I have tried the Lewisham website and can't find any helpful Surestart programme like on Southwark's page. I have also tried posting on SE23.com but to no avail- doesn't seem to like me!

So, since it's not a million miles away from ED, I'm just hoping that someone here may know of a few activities I could take my toddler to in this area? I am going a little bit spare being at home so much and there are only so many times I can take her to see those bloomin' fish at the Horniman! (not dissing it really- love the place- but...you know)

Thanks So much in advance

The ackroyd centre on Ackroyd road has drop in mornings with loads of things for toddlers to play with (think its a couple of pounds) - fridays definately and I think they other days too.

Lewisham library has a singing session on a thursday sometime as does crofton park library - on a friday I think. Theres something at St Augustine's church - a play drop in but have never been.

Church in honor oak park by one tree hill have mother and toddler group not sure when but will look next time i'm passing. The hob does a film for mothers and babies once a week also the honor oak pub does a group again not sure when but it's in their window
Brockley Primary school (just opposite Brockley & Ladywell cemetary) & Manor House library in Lewisham both have lovely children's centres with drop-in sessions & super staff. Manor House backs on to a great park & cafe - I teach Sing & Sign at the children's centre & it's always bustling with activity. I'd definitely take our daughter to their stay & play sessions if I didn't dislike driving quite as much as I do!

The library on Dartmouth Road has a kids library, and they have sing alongs, and stories there. I'll ask Mrs Keef for details, as she takes our daughter there quite a bit I think.

There is a baby sensory class in honor oak, which is apparently pretty good, with a really nice lady running it. Again, I'll ask my wife for the details and get back to you.

We live in HOP and there are loads of clubs in the area for little ones

You should try the Ackroyd Community Centre which runs toddler groups and toy library on Mon,Wed,Thurs and Fri mornings. They also have a baby gym on the first monday of each month.

There is BABBA Latte on Wed mornings at Honor Oak Pub and singing classes at Crofton Park and Forest Hill. There is also a very sweet toddler group on tuesday moring at St Saviours Church and there is great club on Friday mornings at Normanton Road church.

The oneO'clock club in the Rye is also a short walk away (albeit strenuous walk back)

How old is your little one. I have a 15 month old and are always around on Mon and Tuesday if you fancy meeting up locally.

Good luck

Michelle

Hi - I'm in Honor Oak and there's loads of things on for babies in the area. If you type 'baby and toddler activities in SE23' into google then it will bring up a link to a discussion on the se23 forum. Our local NCT lady, Jane, has compiled a full list of what's on and I'm sure she would be happy to send it to you even if you're not a member. Her discussion comes up on google as do some links to the lewisham council website with details about the Ackroyd Centre etc. There's a nice friendly playgroup on a Tuesday from 10am until midday at St Saviour's church in Brockley Rise and various Monkey Music/Hoppin' bunnies classes around. The Kilmorire Centre in Forest hill is also worth a look. Sorry, I'm useless at doing links otherwise I would try and put one on here.

Oh thank you so much everyone!

This is really, really helpful and I will follow up all of these links. I don't know why I haven't been able to find any of this out myself- clearly I have poor investigative skills!

Michelle- thanks I would really like that. She is 16 months so it sounds like a good match! If anyone else lives locally and wants to meet too that would be great.

Hi Michelle

Great idea! I am busy Monday but Tuesday at the St Saviours playgroup sounds good. Do you know what road it is on and what time etc?

Look forward to meeting you (and anyone else who is local!) there.

You won't be able to miss me as I am just a tad pregnant!

Iv'e just seen that Bishberro's post says it is on Brockley Rise at 10am- sorry for not reading through carefully enough before

    • Does anyone know what local pubs/restaurants will be open this year for Xmas serving lunch?
    • That’s interesting, Dulwich Dweller; my 70 yr old neighbour told me 2 weeks ago that he’d left work early to go and book in person (being uncomfortable with all the online & app stuff) and was explicitly told that he needed to go away and book online. He’s not the sort of person to be insistent and, like a lot of older people, a bit embarrassed at his lack of digital ability, so he left without the appointment . This is my point about inconsistency, since his experience was quite different from yours. I’m beginning think that it rather depends on who, at Reception, you speak to on day…
    • Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef.. All for allowing an off day - good of you to post.. much better than chains - had awful service at Gail’s for eg..be it cake and tea or a meal.. They are so nice and accommodating..
    • "I tried Viet Flavour and was disappointed.  Their summer rolls especially were not at all good, stodgy and flavourless.  Pho-OK.  I'm hoping it will get better " Back in June I posted as above.  I am glad to report that either the first time I went the restaurant was having an off day, or they have upped their game.  I ordered the same things.  The summer roll was exactly as it should be, and had a lovely dipping sauce. The Pho was delicious.  My brother who was with me wanted to give it 10/10 but I always think you should leave room for improvement so gave it 9/10.  Staff were lovely.  I am so glad because I love Vietnamese food and now think I have a very good one just round the corner.
