Ant
I know there are lots of cat owners on here, so I thought I'd pick your collective brains. We've decided to get a cat (or kitten, actually). I had cats as a kid but this is the first time I've had to be responsible for finding/choosing one and getting it settled in the home. Does anyone have any advice? And, does anyone know of any kittens that need a good home? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/ Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Best place for that sort of thing is the Celia Hammond Animal Trust. The head office telephone number is 01892-783367 or check out their website www.celiahammond.org Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/#findComment-23856 Share on other sites
SimonM
Agreed about Celia Hammond - we got our last two from there. Be warned though you will first have to be "inspected" by 1 of their reps. to confirm any cat(s) will be suitably homed with you!And if you do get one get it microchipped - worth every penny >:D< Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/#findComment-23864 Share on other sites
Ladygooner
Battersea Dogs Home also has cats needing homes Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/#findComment-23876 Share on other sites
Ant
I think I'll give Battersea a go. Celia Hammond seem a bit too awkward, to be honest: inspections, rehoming kittens in pairs or with their mothers... Also, kittens from Battersea will already be vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (or you can get a voucher for neutering them later). Asset
Hey Ant, someone's found a cat in the General issues section - why don't you get in touch with them and give a stray a home? Ant
Went to Battersea this morning and came back with a little kitten - a female tabby/tortoise-shell, 9 weeks old. Ahhhh....Am really having to impose some self-control to leave her alone in our bedroom until she's feeling a little less freaked. Still need a name for her. Will probably be taking lots of pics of her once she's settled in. Bellenden Belle
One of our cats came from Battersea and I agree, the place is great. One tip they gave us to help the cat settle: try simple cat body language to indicate you are relaxed and friendly. So lots of stretching, yawning and slow blinking at the cat. It might be that poor Missy just thought her new owners were too docile, lazy, or short-sighted to be a threat, but she settled in a treat! Ko
How is the kitten getting along? Can we have a picture please? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/#findComment-26363 Share on other sites
Ant
She's settling in very nicely. Eating well. Good with the kids. Very friendly, even with visitors. Slightly annoying that she'll climb up into your lap, claws and all, rather than jump up. I'll put some pics up over the weekend. Bleep
I've had a kitten for a fortnight now. Hindenburg is proving to be quite the charmer - whilst at the same time raising merry hell.http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1341/652610452_addde5ff40.jpg Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/#findComment-26429 Share on other sites
Ant
Your kitten looks extremely similar to mine, Bleep. You didn't get him/her from Battersea too did you? If so they could be part of the same litter. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/950-getting-a-catkitten/#findComment-26435 Share on other sites
