I know there are lots of cat owners on here, so I thought I'd pick your collective brains. We've decided to get a cat (or kitten, actually). I had cats as a kid but this is the first time I've had to be responsible for finding/choosing one and getting it settled in the home. Does anyone have any advice? And, does anyone know of any kittens that need a good home?

I think I'll give Battersea a go. Celia Hammond seem a bit too awkward, to be honest: inspections, rehoming kittens in pairs or with their mothers... Also, kittens from Battersea will already be vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (or you can get a voucher for neutering them later).

Went to Battersea this morning and came back with a little kitten - a female tabby/tortoise-shell, 9 weeks old. Ahhhh....

Am really having to impose some self-control to leave her alone in our bedroom until she's feeling a little less freaked. Still need a name for her. Will probably be taking lots of pics of her once she's settled in.

One of our cats came from Battersea and I agree, the place is great. One tip they gave us to help the cat settle: try simple cat body language to indicate you are relaxed and friendly. So lots of stretching, yawning and slow blinking at the cat.

It might be that poor Missy just thought her new owners were too docile, lazy, or short-sighted to be a threat, but she settled in a treat!

    • I can do the research but are more people watching cricket on TV now it went to the higher bidder or in 05 when it was on Channel 4?  I think that less kids are into cricket since it went off terrestrial.  I suppose I should have had TMS on.
    • Great finish to today, true Test cricket. India had the chance to kill it off a couple of times, but Carse and Tongue looked far better than I was expecting in a Test situation over the last few days. Still hoping for Jofra and Woody to be back for a couple games each.  PGC, do you reckon this 'Anderson -Tendulkar' series could make Tests a bit more interesting to the wider word? There's still Birmingham, north London, Manchester and south London to go. It's never going to be 'The Ashes', but as a five game series, I genuinely think this might get people a bit more involved.
    • LOL.   Lazy ass people who choose to litter!!!!   Really greenery does not cause anti social behaviour.   But I gotta say thanks for the giggle. You are so on point.   How can we work as a collective to make "The establishment move forward".   Net 0 is coming in fast.   And the only way forward is for everyone to work together
    • That's a gross exaggeration. All of it. But maybe you just intended to provoke that response?
