Yes, I was on one of those 12s on my way home. Police van came rushing up past the bus and blocked the road. The police would not let anyone past the tape. They'd cordoned off Barry Rd between Underhill and Goodrich because apparently someone was up there with a gun, though this wasn't 100% confirmed. There were tons of heavily armed police, several vans, cars and plain clothes officers - a lot of commotion. We had to wait for about 20/30 mins before the tape was pulled back and we could go. They wouldn't give out any more details though...
Could see all this from my window. Perhaps 10-15 police, many with machine guns. Believe that the flat is some sort of halfway house for younger people - have seen small groups of teenagers hanging around outside in previous months, bezzing around on scooters etc. Bit noisy sometimes but nothing more than that til now. Front door still wide open.

    • Hi, I am from the Southwark Day Centre and could collect some apples if I am. It too late... Bettina
    • Labour's latest Rye Lane Ward newsletter is now saying that demolition in the square will start this summer and that the wider station upgrade is expected to be signed off this year - as explained above, sadly wrong on both counts. It describes the renovation of adjacent buildings on Blenheim Grove as "successful", despite having lain empty for a couple of years, longer than the actual renovation works, before saying "the Council is hopeful [it] will see its first new occupants move in to this year". Cue desperate attempt to get at least one in before end of financial year? As for the other topic, in "November 2023, faced with a huge increase in graffiti across the borough, Labour-run Southwark council took action". Nice turn of phrase eh? Rather, after community pressure regarding years of inaction by said Labour-run council, it's finally started to do a little bit, a little late. Surely there would be more chance of resolving issues if our council could for once be part of an honest, informed discussion?
    • I don’t think anyone has mentioned Peckham FoodCycle yet, they might enjoy some apples! https://foodcycle.org.uk/location/foodcycle-peckham-saturdays/
    • Just wanted to recommend Roger from Critter Solutions Pest Control if anyone’s dealing with mice or other unwanted guests. We had a sudden issue with mice in our home's kitchen and after calling around, these guys were by far the most responsive and professional. Roger arrived on time, was really friendly, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He did a full inspection and sealed up some access points we hadn’t even noticed. Since his treatment we haven’t seen or heard anything since. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like a rushed job or a hard sell – just honest advice and thorough work. All backed with a guarantee.  Would definitely use them again (hopefully won’t need to!) and thought I’d share in case anyone local is looking.
