Asset
MP3 taking over. Mediocre sound quality obviously not an issue for most people. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/989-fopp/#findComment-25209 Share on other sites

david_carnell
I'm with you on the MP3 comment but I'll not lose much sleep over FOPP's demise. Beanos in Croydon was the place I missed but apparently it's re-opening as a sort of market place with other dealers inside. Are you a vinyl fan Mockney? mockney piers
I am a fan of vinyl, but am without turntable at the moment.Once the telly is on the wall freeing up a surface, I'd like a turntable, the missus would like flowers and photos and things.I fear I may not win this particular battle sadly. david_carnell
Ah yes, I am in a similar position. I'd like to spend my work bonus in some new hifi kit but I have a feeling it may go on a holiday with my better half instead. The sacrifices we make, eh Mockney? The sacrifices we make.:( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/989-fopp/#findComment-25613 Share on other sites

*Bob*
David, I'm sure that once you explain to your other half (in great detail) as to how a 'step up' in the hi-fi stakes would give you more precise bass, a warmer midrange and an open, natural top-end, she'll soon come round to your way of thinking. Bleep
Fopp was shite. It never had anything apart from mainstream releases - One felt obliged to buy stuff just because it was so damn cheap. Every time I went in one I loaded up on CDs and then on approaching the counter put them back and went to Rough Trade in Covent Garden instead to buy obscure CDs and Records. I can understand why people like it, but they never stocked anything that you couldn't buy anywhere else. citizenED
Dear Mockney, never, i repeat never, put a turntable on a surface. It should be (a-hem) on a wall-mounted shelf. Leave that surface for photos, nic-nacs and stuff.citizen Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/989-fopp/#findComment-25674 Share on other sites
mockney piers
I dunno Bleep. I bought an awful lot of stuff in there over the last couple of years that most people won't and will not have heard of. Mainstream it ain't.I suspect from previous postings that your tastes lean heavily toward electronica, and for this you may well be correct. For indy it was a marvel. SeanMacGabhann
or what used to be knows as indie anyway - these days what is termed "indie" bears as much relation to what was as modern r'n'b to does to the original r'n'b music Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/989-fopp/#findComment-25681 Share on other sites
mockney piers
Have you been reading too many of Louisa's posts sean?Record stylus? luxury, we used to have to play our indie music with coal.I use it as a catch all statement to cover stuff what I like. SeanMacGabhann
You know I knew what you meantyou cheeky Mockney - I have always used the term to describe my tastes as well - but with the likes of the Kooks moving their tanks onto my lawn... macroban
> Have you been reading too many of Louisa's posts sean?> Record stylus? luxury, we used to have to play our indie music with coal.EDF: another day, another attack.Mockney,I'm afraid your knowledge of recorded music technology is not sound. The organic material used to play records was the thorn needle. They could be purchased at Follet's record store at the bottom of Lordship Lane. SeanMacGabhann
Attack?? What attack? No attacks on this thread ..Just polite joshing amongst friends. Even the Louisa reference was a fond tease about how Louisa is partial to nostalgia. Nowt wrong with that...
