To be honest, if you walk a dog at a similar time and place each day, this type of ad hoc acquaintance springs up. I still say hi to people now I've no foster dog to walk! If this was a builder or taxi driver it is hardly front page headlines. Maybe a small section of a local newspaper. Doubtful. Remember the 'cat in the wheelie bin' woman, that story was covered extensively and she was found and prosecuted

I think you are bending over backwards and it's time to end the friendly! Get some proper advice, keep a diary from right now, and explore action possibilities. They obviously think numbers mean strength, they are wrong.
