Next EDF Drinks - Friday 5th Dec at The Wishing Well Inn
annaj replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
My sister's godfather used to run a crochet website called Slipknot. They used to get endless abuse from Slipknot fans for not actually being about Slipknot. If you see what I mean. Hmmmm it's been a long week, I promise I think of some more interesting conversation before tonight.... -

Good. That's much easier. I wasn't at last year's Christmas bash, but I seem to remember seeing sequins in the photos, so I thought I'd better check. -

I'll be coming straight from work so, 9ish I guess. Seriously though girls, dressing up or not? Am I taking an LBD to work to change into or just wiping off the worst of the blood and vomit and putting on some lippy? -

Is there a dress code for this one? I seem to remember that people dressed up a bit for Christmas drinks last year... -
Are you the person who hit my car today in Sainsburys carpark?
annaj replied to annaj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Fractionater, I did take a picture of the number plate and I could, obviously, get the police involved and find her that way. To be honest, I didn't start this thread expecting her to own up and right me a cheque and I realise there are various ways I could take it further if I wanted to, but I think all I really wanted was a bit of sympathy, which all you lovely people provided. Thank you. I was upset about it at the time and I still find her attitude depressing and her parking skills alarming (I'm no expert when it comes to parking, there is at least one forumite who could tell you how many goes it takes me to get into a perfectly straight space, but I do know if I hit stuff) but it's minor damage that I'll just get fixed and forget about. Life is too short to spend worrying about small stuff. -

I'm sure you're right HonaloochieB. Depressing, isn't it. -

Thanks for the responses and support. Jimbob, you're almost certainly right that I wouldn't get anywhere with this if I tried and, of course, I should have looked more carefully at my car before she left, but it was pouring with rain and I was a bit taken by surprised by the whole thing. To be honest what bothers me isn't the damage to my car, which isn't major and it is only a car, but the other driver's attitude. Either she genuinely didn't know she'd hit me, which is a bit scary, or she just didn't care. Either way, it left me a bit upset. But no point dwelling on it, I'll probably just get the damage fixed and as you say, put it down to experience. -
So, an odd thing happened to me about midday today, in the Sainsbury's carpark. We'd gone up with a load of recycling and I was parked by the recycling bins waiting for MrJ to come back with the shopping when a woman driving a silver Nissan pulled into the space next to me and hit my car on the way in. I know she hit me, because I was sitting in the car and, well, it moved and I felt her car scrape along mine. So, I hopped out, smiled and explained that she'd just hit me, kind of expecting an apology. She said she hadn't felt anything and didn't think she had. We had a quick look at my car and couldn't see any damage, so she smiled, shrugged and walked off apparently entirely unconcerned that she'd hit someone and didn't even notice. When I had a closer look, however, there was a big old scratch along my car and purple paint on the bumper of hers. I took pictures of my car and her car then went into the shop to borrow a pen and paper and see if I could find her and by the time we got back to the car she'd gone. So, if you were the woman in the silver Nissan who hit me, please PM me so we can exchange details. I know it's really not a disaster and I don't want to be one of those people who gets really wound up about petty things and whinges endlessly and pointlessly on an internet forum, but it is kind of annoying and a bit weird and I'd like to get it sorted out.

Fair enough sister buggie, I'll consider myself told off. ;-)

Jimbob, nowhere have I suggested that doctors manage anything without nurses neither do I have a "them and us attitude" If you were to ask any nurse I've ever worked with (including my husband, although he is biased) I feel confident they would tell you that I treat all members of the team with respect. My comment was, as I've said, light-hearted and any cattiness was aimed at the producers of the programme, not the nurses involved. djiftz, I'd like to see you say that to Matron's face...
-
Thank you Jimbob, I'm well aware of how a trauma team works and the value of nurses within the team. The remark was intended to be light hearted (although there is a servious point about how doctors and nurses are represented in the media, but I won't go into it here) rather than catty. As for your last line about doctors calling the trauma team to help them out, surgeons and orthos are, um, doctors.
-
I'm easily pretty enough to compete with the nurse David, but you won't spot me on this or any other hospital based "documentary". They all remind me of that Mitchell and Webb sketch(after the house bit about 50 seconds in)
-
I'm enjoying it very much, djfitz. Especially all the wobbly, hand-held camera, nostril shots and the way that it implies that pretty nurses manage major trauma all on ther own with no help whatsoever from the less photogenic doctors in the background.

*hastily pulls dressing gown together* Mind your own business Keef!

*sigh* Obviously, I had a swimming costume on under my pyjamas Moos. Didn't you have swimming lessons at school?
-
*dives in wearing pyjamas* *treads water* *takes off pyjama bottoms and ties knots in the legs* *flings pyjama bottoms over head filling them with air and twists top to create emergency float* *attaches thread to makeshift float* Phew!

Only 800 more for me. Hhmmmm. Perhaps I could consider deleting some. Nice new feature Admin.

There was another thread about this recently wasn't there? Anyway, a quick google search reveals the following about me (aquarius)... Strengths: Humanitarian, analytical, modern Weaknesses: Unreliable, extremist, chaotic Key characteristic: Iconoclastic Perhaps I'm lacking in insight, but I'd say only one, maybe two, of those are actually true of me.

As a former National Universities Latin American Champion ('94 season) I love Stricty and watch every year. I find seeing how hard the contestants work and how much they improve week by week extremely satisfying as well as entertaining. As the series progresses some of the the dancing is really beautiful to watch. I know it's all about charity and having fun, but when talented dancers and dancers who have really worked hard to improve lose to someone who simply can't dance, because he's funny, then as the man himself said the joke has gone to far. Also, anyone concerns that poor old Sargo has been bullied and is missing out might be interested to know that he's gone of on an all expenses paid criuse today where he'll be doing a spot of after dinner speaking and the occasional dance in return for five star board and lodgings. Could it be that the decision to quit was not entirely selfless? Another thing that's great about Strictly, it's bringing ballroom and latin to a whole new audience and with traditionally macho sportsmen like rugby players taking part, it's breaking down prejudices. And finally, for all the Strictly fans and for anyone out there who's having a go having never actually watched it (and I suspect there are a few) last weeks best dances.. Austin Healy's Tango and Rachel Stevens Rumba

Just to be extraordinary dull for a moment, it shouldn't be either. Schizophrenia means split mind, but was when first used to describe the condition was intended to mean split from reality not a split personality. Anyway, the farbic shop was closed for a while for refurbishment, but as far as I know is open as normal now.

Are you calling me common Brenda? Wesite, what do you and your girlfriend think? What are the terms you're fighting over? -

Brilliant, David! Don't think I've ever seen the video before. It's pleasingly literal,(Ah, the 80s. A simpler time.) well, apart from the end with the women whipping the coffin bearers... -
