  1. Hhhhmmmm Strangely sinister Mr MacGabhann...
  2. *give BN5 a very stern look* Moos is definitely one of mine and has the added bonus of being equally charming in real life. David_Carnell is also a favourite and wins my saying-what-I-think-but-better-than-I-could award. And Mockney, although rarely seen these days, is still a favourite for adding much more detail than anyone else would have known or cared about on any subject.

    AAAGH!

Ok, you weren't in the doghouse for not mentioning me on the favourite forumites thread, but for that you really are. Just you wait til I get home... Mockney, that's such a pain, I'm really sorry. I'll by you a pint of something soothing tomorrow.
  4. That's a really big bottle of beer ;-) Do you mean Most bar in the abutment of the bridge? It is expensive, but you're paying for location there. It's a lovely spot to meet for a drink or start your evening.
  5. Oh Moos, thank you! I mentioned the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff another lovely forumite over lunch the other day and she'd never heard of it. I was quiet surprised, I thought it was one of thoses stories that all children read and loved. We used to play it on a foot bridge in near my Grandparents house with my Grandpa (after morning service still dressed in dog collar and sometimes even cassock) being the troll and me and my sisters being billy goats. Happy memories and an altogether different kind of troll. :))
  6. An excellent event. MrJ won me a Scooby Doo on the shooting range last year!
  7. Absolutely Sean, but please lets not start that one again....
  8. It always make me think of a book I had as a child about flap-eared Lorna and her best friend Otto. Which of course is nothing to do with house prices. Sorry.
  9. It wasn't my description of him MrPiers, it was hers. That was kind of the point. You're really not spending enough time on here lately.
  10. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can I be first to abstain from name-tags???I fear > spangles may target me with a deadly weapon! She might, but even without a name tag you'd be easily identified as the insipid man, hugging pretty newbies. ;-) Edited to make it clear, by use of comma, that you're a man who hugs not a man hugger. Still not sure I've got it right.
  11. Hhmmmm *straightens up in chair and breathes in* A degree of muffintop is natural and inevitable on all but the very thinnest of women and shouldn't be judged too harshly! Muffintop, you should come to the drinks as should all the recent newbies who might be thinking about it. :))
  12. muffintop, that's so unbelievably rude, I'm not surprised you needed to come on here and share your anger. It's not even just the race aspect, although that is shocking, it's offensive on so many levels. The fact the two middle aged men think it's ok to sit and objectify and judge the women around them, loud enough for the women they're talking about to hear, is really arrogant. Although it's tempting to think of an equally rude and scathing retort, it would only have been satisfying very breifly and probably wouldn't have had any impact. You probably did better just maintaining a dignified silence. Hope you day improves.
  13. Well said Brendan and not that sentimental at all by my standards. He is a man who has always stood out as a true hero, an inspiration and a moral leader and he is right that we must all take responsibility for the world we live in. I listen ot a bit of the concert on my way to work last night. They were giving out a text short code that you could text to donate to his HIV/AIDs charity, the idea being that you text a brithday message and some of the cost (a pound I think) from every text goes to the charity. A great fundraising idea, I thought, quick and simple, but when I got my phone out it took me ages to decide what to write! I mean, it's not like he's actually going to read every one, but he's a great man, you'd want to send something good wouldn't you? I'm not sure if the line is still open, but you can also donate through the website
  14. The new single from Coldplay - maybe called Viva la Vida? Haven't decided yet if I love it or hate it, but it's really catchy!
  15. Oh go on James. We'll be kind, honest. There's a terrible radio ad at the moment for Sure Quantum a new deodorant for men. They're selling it as "future ready protection" and claim to have done "competitive dryness testing" (what now?) at the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth (58 degree apparently). The thing is, if the worst global warming predictions come true and the world's temperature does shoot up, I can't help thinking damp armpits are not going to be our major concern. Just me?
  16. I know just what you mean about the Wanted section MsB, although there are some gems in there if you look. The forum has had a bit of a dip recently, I find I've been PMing much more than posting, but I still love it. Mostly, as several people have already said, for the people I've met through it. Quids, I like the atmosphere here and I have to say I don't see the point, or the fun, in a forum where people were always rude and aggresive, but perhaps just me being dull. The only other forums I have any experience of are wedding forums, which are way more twee and much, much madder than this one.

I'm with you on that one D_C. Most cosmetic ads are awful and full of bad science, but surely the worst is Pierce Brosnan for L'Oriel. Cantering along the beach and talking about the environment, whilst looking after his skin, because, well, he's worth it. One that I quite like though is the one for the new bubbling device in cans of Kronenberg, where all the little chefs (inside the can of course) cut the bubbles up into smaller and smaller bubbles...
  18. Steady on Huguenot, I voted for number 5 (in more ways than one I suppose). Pongo, I'm really not sure what your point is. I realise it's a bit cheeky to post on here asking people to take part in this survey, but it's not like I don't use the forum regularly and it doesn't really do any harm and might just help out a great charity.
  19. Had some feedback from my sister about this today she said the comments on here were really interesting. In case you're interested at the last count design No.2 was the favourite with No.5 and No.4 close behind. Huguenot's default choice No.3 is in last place. They are also aware of the potential "stop" or "danger" associations with red, but are trying it with people anyway, because it's done pretty well as the colour of prominent AIDs charities. Finally, although most of us are not the age group that Brook helps, we are in the age bracket of most of their supporters. So, our opinions are important since the image has to appeal to those who might fund, as well as those who might use, the service. Thanks again everyone who's commented and voted. Keep it up!
  20. What's this? Another new poster, with surprisingly detailed knowledge, who has registered just to praise Codfellas? Well, surely that must mean Codfellas is the best chip shop in the world? I mean, why else would someone (actually two people) be moved to register and post for the first time? Hhmmmm Unless... Maybe, just maybe, Tolga isn't just a concerned customer with an interesting in mopping frequency. Maybe Tolga has, oh I don't know, some kind of connection to the place.... Friends of Codfellas, please, I admire your enthusiasm, but do stop posting these daft messages. If you want to tell us about your restaurant, just be honest.

  22. Thank you HonoloochieB and Huguenot (love the middle of the night posting btw makes forum life much more interesting for the shift working forumite). I think she's the bee's knees too! I don't think it's really about respectibility, more about appealing to their target group, the old logo is a bit dated. Sadly, most of us are well out of their target age group, but varied opinions are still relevant. Thanks everyone who's looked. I hope you're all voting as well.
  23. I have a favour to ask... My sister works for Brook, a charity that offers free confidential sexual health advice and services to young people, it's a cause she's passionate about and they do great work. The charity is currently updating it's image a bit and part of that is redesigning the logo, which is where you all come in. If you go to the Brook website (I've only just learnt how to do the thing where you make the link into words BTW, I'm very proud) you'll see a purple blob asking you to vote. Click on the blob and you can look at the shortlist of designs and vote for your favourite. It might seem like a really small thing, but branding (as I believe it's called) can be really important in how the charity is perceived and how identifiable and memorable it is. If this forum is anything it's opinionated, so go on, take a few minutes and express an opinion, it'll really help*. Thanks! *If any of you have piles of spare cash lying around that would also help tons.....;-)
  24. pretty polly, it was clear from your first post that you had family experience of cancer (as do I as it happens) and because of that I almost didn't post. I'm really sorry for your loss and I really didn't mean to be insensitive or make you feel judged for using sunbeds. Using sunbeds, like any lifestyle risk factors for disease, is a personal choice. I just feel very strongly that people should be aware of risks and therefore be able to make informed decisions. I agree that it's commendable to see a local business doing something for charity, particularly such a great charity, and I hope they make lots of money on the day, but I stand my what I said earlier.
  25. pretty polly, your post has left me with really conflicted feelings I have to say. I whole-heartedly agree that Macmillan is an amazing organisation that undoubtably deserves support, but there is something quite bizarre, to my mind, in a tanning salon supporting a cancer charity, given that there is good evidence that sunbeds significantly increase cancer risk... Sorry if this sounds really harsh, but they could do a lot more to reduce the suffering caused by cancer by not encouraging people to increase their risk for the sake of "beauty" and I just couldn't ignore that painful irony.
