  1. Draconian must be one of the more overused words in society today. That said, I kind of agree with Nero, but then again, can see admin's point, the OP should have changed the title straight away (once they'd taken some deep breaths and calmed down).
  2. Totally forgot about Brent Knoll in Sydenham, which is bad, as my wife used to work there!
  3. When I was about 15, I was on a music course in the easter holidays, and I was made aware that I'd caught the eye of a very pretty sax player (poor girl can' have had very good taste). Anyway, I got talking to her, and we agreed that I'd call her and we'd arrange a "date". So far so good! At the end of the week, we played a concert, and her mother attended (don't think her dad was there). After the concert, I went over to her to say goodbye, and she, smiling, introduced me to her mother. I smiled and politely said hello, and her mum seemed to smile back in rather a friendly way. GAME ON thought I. Anyway, I called the girl the next day (never was very good at playing it cool and making them wait). Basically, we managed a couple of phonecalls, but that was it, we never did go out. Basically her mum had taken one look at this long haired, leather jacket wearing 15 year old me, and reported back to dad, who had told my pretty saxophonist that she would not be seeing me. A year or so later, my mate ended up going out with this girl (having done the honourable thing, and checked with me first - blokes who don't do this are scummers), they did end up having a quite a serious relationship, but my mate constantly reported ongoing battles with the dad. Note to parents, if your teenaged daughter wants to play an instrument, you might want to avoid sax, as I had rather a lot of luck with saxophonists back in the day. They seem to like the less well turned out boys.
  4. Nice political swipe there James, really helpful. EDIT: Because I was probably a bit rude.
  5. That's basically how I feel. This bunch of England players are hard to get behind and feel affection for, as we have with previous teams. Bunch of spoilt boys who believe their own hype. I want them to kick on and win, but frankly, if they don't get out of the group, I'll not shed tears, hopefully it'll give a few of them a bit of a reality check. Beckham was treated VERY badly after France '98, but in the long run, I think it actually did him good, and made him more respectful. Lets all hang some effigies of Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, and Lampard outside a few pubs!
  6. posted twice
  7. Saying the forum sucks was harsh, as parts of it are very useful and friendly. Other parts are not. Unfortunately, they're the parts that I most enjoyed. Admin should be proud of the forum, but comes in for a lot of cr@p from some people.
  8. Does this not just prove that you're on here to wind things up? Word! Well quite. This used to be a friendly forum, with disgreements, but ones that were discussed in a polite, and usually funny manner. Now, for the first time, it feels like there are distinct groups of posters, and it's all a bit nasty. I keep on coming back, like you keep visiting you favourite pub, once the glory days have passed, just because you hope that it'll recapture that spark. It's not happening however. I'll probably keep reading and posting because I seem to be unable to just walk away, but it's almost self harm, as this place sucks! I feel really bad for Admin, who has tried to give the community something nice, and useful, only to be constantly questioned by a few posters with chips on their shoulders. HAL, you've acted like a nasty piece of work on this thread, and don't try saying you haven't, you enjoy getting a rise out of people, and it's a bit sad quite frankly.
  9. I was hoping Australia would make more of an exciting match of it, but they'v been out classed.
  10. Who cares if Hart lacks experience in the WC. He plays against world class players week in week out, in argubly the strongest league in the world.
  11. Oh dear oh dear oh dear Hal. You were doing rather well, and had the sympathy of many. Now you just look like a bit of a fraud.
  12. Sorry to not let it die, but that is unfair, it was LM who brought up something from ages ago, just because BN5 came on here and posted. I am not making this personal, I don't know LM, and I haven't seen the other lady in question for the best part of a year, I'm certainly not part of some gang who is bullying. I just thought that LM was wrong dragging up the whole sorry affair. Who gives a flying f**k if you've not made up (what is this, the playground), it's a big world, and the other poster hardly ever posts anymore (which is a damned shame), so just live your life and forget it. When I read that on the Nunhead forum, I thought it was a bit out of order to be honest. I am sur the other poster wishes she'd never ever posted anything about being "snubbed", but she did, because she felt she had been. I don't think you helped yourself in the whole sorry affair to be honest, you could have acted with a lot more dignity, and you could have refrained from bringing it up again and again ever since. If anything, it reduces any sympathy I felt for your position in the whole mess. Anyway, this thread has rather gone off topic.
  13. WORD!
  14. Ha ha, I feel ya *bob*, I've tried God damn it, I've tried!
  15. Keef

    First ever gig?

Ozzy Osbourne, somewhere in Manchester, 90 or 91.
  16. To be fair, I kind of gave up after Meloncholy (although Tonight Tonight is a good track).
  17. I didn't read the thread in question, so have no opinion, but lots of what you said rang true. The old skool are barely here anymore, but we cling on in the hope of a return of the glory days. Would be a weaker forum if you pack it in completely.
  18. Quite right. Sam's Town has some good tracks, but just didn't "do it for me". Quick mention for Smashing Pumpkins. They actually managed 2 good albums in Gish, and Siamese Dream, but it was down hill from there.
  19. Not sure I agree there is no inventiveness, but I can't argue about subtlety. Still, I guess this is always going to be influenced by the music we listened to when we were yoots. Agree that Copeland is a brilliant drummer. Nice guy too.
  20. Oooo sax. I want the bird from The Zutons.
  21. My band... Lead Guitar short list - Slash (GNR / Velvet Revolver), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Jeff Beck Winner - Slash (surprise). There are plenty of amazing guitarists out there, and it's impossible to say who is "best". Tony Iommi is a riff machine, Jeff Beck is technically amazing, but for me, Slash is just the one I like to listen to. I never liked Guns N' Roses because of Axl Rose's screechy voice, I liked them because of the sound of Slash's guitar. Drums short list - Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Steven Adler (early GNR), Roger Taylor (Queen) Winner - Lars Ulrich. Steve Adler was not a great drummer, but his style added to what made early GNR so good. After they got rid of him, it all became a bit too tight and pretty, and lost the roughness that made Appetite for Destruction such a great album. I'm not a huge Queen fan, but they were all bloody good players, and I think Roger Taylor is a great drummer. I know not everyone likes heavy music. I never liked the really heavy stuff, but Lars Ulrich is just the best rock drummer out there, he hits them hard, and fast, and for me, he's the bollocks! Bass short list - Duff (GNR), Tal Wilkenfeld (was with jeff beck's band), Dan Roberts (Crash Test Dummies) Winner - Dan Roberts Duff was my hero when I was a bass playing teen. Tal Wilkenfeld is absolutely bloody amazing, but she is a bit jazz, so has to go. Dan Roberts is a great player with a great style. Shame Crash Test Dummies are only really remembered for Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm, as they were better than that. Vocals short list - Skin (Skunk Anansie), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath days) Winner - Dave Grohl The young Ozzy in Sabbath was a wild man on stage. Obviously he's not on my list for vocal talent, although he can hold a tune. I just love his energy on stage. Skin's voice is bloody awesome, and I almost picked her. But, Dave Grohl is my winner. I'm not even a bit Foo Fighters fan, but I really like his voice, and more than that, he just goes for it with so much passion! This video is a good example Others in the band Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) - Rhythm Guitar Ellen Reid (Crash Test Dummies) - Keys & Backing Vocals (has a lovely voice and sings some really nice harmonies)
  22. For the record, I more or less agree with you, but I'd stop at offering my seat to every woman, just because she was a woman. I was joking about the chauvinist bit, but to be honest, I do think it's a little bit patronising.
  23. Blame the feminists man.
  24. Had this chat with a couple of band mates the other day. Counting Crows - August & Everything After One of my favourite albums. There have been a few wonderful songs on later albums, but this one was their best by a mile! Alanis Morrissette - Jagged Little Pill Annoys me a bit hearing people slagging this album off these days. I f*cking bet you bought it at the time though!!! I'll still admit I loved it, and although it's aged badly, it still has some good tracks. It was absolutely massive world wide, but she's never gotten anywhere near it since. Killers - Hot Fuss I couldn't stop playing this when it came out, and think "Jenny was a friend of mine" os one of the best opening tracks I've heard. Some friends of mine think Sam's Town was a better follow up, but for me, they've gone downhill since their debut. The Feeling - 12 stops from home Bought this because I liked "Fill my little world", and really really liked the album. Pop./Rock with lots of great harmonies. Everything I've heard of them since this has been absolute shite. I think they made it big on the likes of Capital Radio, so had to lose the rock part of pop/rock.
