  1. More of a pedalrast if you ask me.
  2. Its a type of mink
  3. True, spelling is very important. My point was about being obsessed with the handwriting 6yr olds. Local schools do seem to take spelling seriously but not as seriously as attendance.
  4. I can't spell unless I'm using microsoft word.
  5. Sadly, its all they really care about now, SATS and attendance.
  6. The obsession with handwriting is what bothers me, by the time these kids are adults the only thing they will be writing is their signature.
  7. Shame, the forum almost produced a funny thread::o
  8. Ok Paul, here's the deal. A few of us are taking the piss out of the ludicrous assertations made earlier in the thread comparing migration due to rising housing costs with ethnic cleansing. I thought that was fairly obvious. For the record I do not think that moving to Croydon would be worse than being gassed, not even Sth Croydon, but my comment was never meant to be taken seriously, it was meant (in a jokey way) to highlight how silly the original comment was. Its quite a hard forum to joke around on isn't it, you literally have to explain every post..
  9. My kids are older so it makes no difference but it will be interesting as it gets colder, windier and wetter. I'm not a big fan of the combination locks on the doors to the individual school buildings though, I just cannot see the point of it. For a community school its becoming very inaccessible to parents.
  10. How is it excellent? Its very poorly written and constantly whinges about the parents (eg two weeks ago about the new lining up procedures which she had to do because the parents were so inconsiderate in the mornings). Other than that its pretty unique for saying nothing much in two pages. Peter Coleman was visible, and accessible everyday before and after school, he didn't spend his whole time in his office. Furthermore, he could not have been more involved in the FOG events (carnivals, fairs etc), opening up the school (now done by a private security firm) helping to count money, locking up (now done by a private security firm, he also used to Chair the FOG AGM (the new Head was to busy this year). text removed on request - The Administrator
  11. Having to move to Croydon is arguably worse.
  12. Its a reference to her lack of visibility around the school (the complete opposite to Peter Coleman) and the fact that many parents do not know who she is. I will concede though that not every single parent at the school refers to her as the phantom head, it wasn't meant to be taken that literally.
  13. I wouldn't hold your breath, not for nothing is she called the "Phantom Head" by parents.
  14. Don't forget them calculatingly turning the Waitrose into an Iceland, that was the final nail for a lot the chattering classes at the time.
  15. You exaggerate sir! It was not genocide, it was though a clear case of ethnic cleansing. FACT At least the most recent victims of ethnic cleansing made a tidy pile from the sale of their property, the greatest tragedy of the middle-class exodus was that housing prices were quite depressed at the time. Some of them made as little as 2% profit..... the horror, the horror.
  16. Thing is, we didn't really have to go through all that effort of engineering a "policy of house price rises" to rid East Dulwich of the cursed working classes. As it turned out, refurbing a couple of pubs and having a market on Saturdays where, amongst other things, you can buy organic foods::o, seems to have done the trick.
  17. I bet you do, just a little.... I, on the other hand, have the misfortune of having English (not even Celtic) neighbours on both sides and am often too embarrassed to introduce my friends to them.
  18. This thread is brilliant! I've learnt so much; 1. Diversity is only applicable between the white and black population, everyone else is the same. 2. If you take away their shops, black people will move back to Peckham (don't let the good folk of Beckenham and Eltham know this). 3. The black population should be discouraged from following the same migratory patterns as other Londoners, because they give our neighbourhood a "gritty urban" feel and scare off the chattering classes. 4. East Dulwich used to be so much better when; everyone knew each others name, the absence of punters meant the Landlord would chat to you for hours, you could by big panes of glass on Lordship Lane.......Blah,Blah,Blah,Blah,Blah. Have I missed anything?
  19. Thats a real rarity though and stems from the time it split from Dulwich College. An agreement was made where Dulwich was to be a rugby school, Alleyns Football
  20. Agree 100%, that said much more about our society than the fact that two boys from a troubled backgroung were capable of committing a horrible, random act. It made me feel very reassured to see a hundred baying adults turn up outside a court to lynch two 9yr old boys who hadn't even been found guilty of anything yet. Furthermore, I cannot understand why people feel that a violent act carried out by children is worse than one carried out by an adult. Children aren't always particularily pleasant to each other, and I'm just suprised that episodes such as the Bulger killing aren't more commonplace.
  21. I was always under the impression that Scottish Rugby was dominated by the famous Public Schools such as Stewarts-Melville etc.
