  1. There's a lot more than 9 teams that play international rugby Alan, but you're right that rugby has been pretty elitist in the past, although that is changing (most of the 2003 team were not privately educated). I can't see rugby ever competing with football though as its basically a rural sport and we live in a predominantly urban society.
  2. Couldn't really see what was libellous about asking if a RUMOUR, was correct but fairplay. Does seem strange though that you can criticise pubs, resaurants, estate agents etc, but schools are strictly of limits. Clare Seing you're a teacher at one of the "local" schools, you'll probably understand why I take the your unbiased opinions with a pinch of salt?

  4. Why didn't you just ask/tell them to get out of everyones way? Were they tooled up?
  5. Maybe we should rename this thread "just say nice things about schools or otherwise get accused of anything ranging from; vindictiveness, not living in the area for very long, not having any involvement with the school, not being able to give an opinion, lack of gratitude, being unhelpful??, an etc etc". Unfortunately this kind of defensiveness is matched by the school, which is why I assumed Miss Y was staff, and not just a little bit crazy.
  6. Been pondering this part, are you a bit mad? It doesn't make sense.
  7. Actually there are very few parents who do as much for the school as we do, very few. Doesn't mean I can't have serious reservations about aspects of the way it is run, reservations that are shared by many parents, oddly enough normally those who work closest with the school (refer to school governer reference ). Anyway, you sound like staff.
  8. My kids go there Clare. Its suffered because of a tired, outdated leadership who would turn a blind eye to anything that made their last few years challenging. Most parents I know were dancing for joy when P.A recently resigned. It underperforms in relation to intake and results which the last ofsted indicated.
  9. St Anthony's is a good school but is basically run by a man who belongs more in 1920's Ireland than modern day London. Some of the stories I've heard about his admissions policies are shocking. Goodrich School has a great catchment area and a very strong parents lobby. It is, however, incredibly complacent and the teachers are a bit of a law unto themselves. The school really does underperform and most of the parents I know who have kids there are not that impressed.
  10. I know all my neighbours for at least four doors down either side. They're all great but none of them would consider a "watchful eye" as part of they're job description.
  11. Fair enough, I'm more scared of the automobile than the bogeyman though.
  12. To be honest, if you're old enough to play on the streets in what is effectively inner-city London, then you're old enough to walk 10 mins to one of the local parks. Its just idleness and a lack of imagination if you ask me.
  13. True, the glass panels of the bus stops seem to be very popular but I'm not sure if thats the "urban dream" we're alluding to.
  14. I'm not sure if Barry Road is a good street for a kickabout.
  15. They're back in force today.
  16. I know this will probably make me a "snob" but the food there is absolutely disgusting, I couldn't finish my meal last time I was there, neither could the kids. The ambience of the beer garden was lovely though, the grass was covered with decaying food and the gentleman two tables away kept shouting "motherf***er" for no apparent reason. But I guess at the end of the day I'm just a soft, pretentious, snob.
  17. You must be a bit of a daytime drinker Domitianus, not that thats a problem. During the day I think you should try the CPT or Castle, and if you can hold out until 19:00 most pubs (except the Herne) become kid free. You don't get many kids in the Peckham Weatherspoon either.

They returned calls and everything!

Don't forget, the streets would have been overflowing with raw sewage.

You missed out bored children sitting on the pavement outside occasionally going into the pub and pleading to be fed. Oh, and of course, all the locks in the cubicles having been kicked off along with the toilet seats.

Quite, a pub should never be a meeting place for friends, anything other than a barely audible grunt to your fellow drinkers is breaking basic protocol. They must be preserved as sacred ground for heavy drinking, and just heavy drinking, or they will lose all character. I'm actually writing to the National Trust and trying to get The Silver Buckle listed as a national treasure.
  23. "Where do other people go to buy clothing?", errr the same place as they always have done, there isn't anywhere in East Dulwich to get clothes at the moment is there? I was always left disappointed when I tried to buy a t-shirt at the glass place.
