  1. Big shout-out to the lovely ladies at Dolled Up beauty parlour, at 209 Lordship Lane, who resolved a courier mis-delivery problem for me. These stunning ladies have warm hearts and a fantastic sense of humour, combined with a great community spirit. I wish them well in their new business at 209 Lordship Lane.

  2. Roll on the time , if ever, when we adopt the Australian system whereby the agreed price becomes binding. The whole process takes place much more swiftly and with less hassle than it does here. Scotland have a good system also.
  3. You have to believe it!
  4. Can you quote any statistics in any detail - particularly for those roads which are no more congested because of the traffic diverted on to them by the LTN?
  5. Good advice Kipper! The 1.0 early Ecoboost and 1.2 Puretech engines have wet cam belts that fail and failure with a cam belt invariably result in catastrophic damage to valves and pistons. Later ones were changed to chains. Avoid at all costs!
  6. Scented envelope for that cash would mask the pong of used cash that has been handled by the great unwashed.
  7. More worrying is the fact that is owned by foreign private equity. They operate 2,500 clinics across 20 countries and they bought out hundreds of private practices in the UK and put the vets on performance contracts. See Vets say they are under pressure to bring in more money per pet
  8. Running empty would mean that the centre pf gravity would be at its lowest possible and less likely to flip over. No rubbish would come out as the compactor mechanism keeps the rear "shovel" closed when the truck is in motion
  9. I could not discern that from the photo , nonetheless I stand corrected. Yes, the rear rearmost axle is the tag axle on this model as evidenced by the orientation of the dishing of the wheels. Violia obviously have a mix of different axle arrangements. See my photo above. The biggest one they have is a 8x4 with a full 8 wheel rear bogie as showm below.
  10. You beat me to it. The other alternative might be an American Candy shop in the style of these on Oxford street - equally favoured by the M-L brigade. Check out The sour truth of Oxford Street’s candy shop curse
  11. No it wasn't. I was thinking about the proliferation of money-laundering operations masquerading as barbers. Investigations have revealed that these M-L operations are reporting revenues of £1000,000 per month every month. And that is all supposedly paid in cash. So they can afford to give cut-price barbering to draw in a few punters. No genuine barber can compete that cross-subsidisation. One exception however is Porters Barber&Barista in Dulwich Village. Very pricey, but one has the confidence that they are barbers. Porters Barbers
  12. I could hazard a guess as to why the "excellent long-term barber" in Forest Hill closed down.
  13. For many years I went to Ken's on NXR. He was pretty much the only barber in ED Now we have more barbers than you could shake a stick at - all the way down from the Plough through to DKH and some are empty of customers - even on the evenings and weekends. I never ceased to be amazed that they continued to operate despite not having clients and realised that they were probably into money-laundering - just like the sweet shops along Oxford street. I went once to one on LL and certainly wasn't impressed with their. My dear wife has cut my hair ever since. I don't believe in supporting criminals. The recent BBC expose confirms this barbers and vape shops suspected of being fronts for crime gangs - BBC News
  14. Went to the junction today to check the "scene of the event" to try and work out from the tyre marks on the road and the damage to the kerb, what were the contributing factors to the accident. Here are my observations and deductions. 1.Compaction type refuse collection trucks, such as these, are exceptionally "tail-heavy" due the the weight of the hydraulic compaction mechanism and the fact that this weight is positioned on the rear overhang ie behind the rear wheels. 2. To compensate for the extra weight, the truck is fitted with a "tag axle". The tag axle is located forward of the rearmost axle. When fully laden, all the rear tyres will be running at very close to their operating limit. 3. The tag axle has only 2 wheels as opposed to 4 wheels on the rearmost axle. So on either side at the rear, there a three wheels. So if one rear tyre on the near side has lost pressure, the weight carried by the remaining two is increased by 50%. 4. Being tail-heavy with a high centre of gravity, the driver of such vehicles should be ultra cautious when cornering. 5. When turning to the right, the weight imposed on near side tyres is further increased depending on the speed involved. 6. The two long curved tyre marks on the road suggest that only two of the 3 tyres on the near side were taking the weight. 7 These curved tyre marks end abruptly and I'm trying to work out exactly why. This spot is very close to where the near side rear wheels slide up against the kerb and the wheel rims gouge out chunks of the kerb stones. There is a possibility that the driver braked late and so caused the tyres to loose all grip and so slide into the kerb. If there are any forensic traffic experts around, I would welcome their take on this.
  15. Whether he jumped or was pushed it doesn't matter. Hopefully it's just the start of the inevitable disintegration of Trump's amateurish regime. I just can't wait for Vance, Hegseth and Rubio to opt out. Meanwhile living in hope that Trump become the fifth.
  16. Can someone explain why Greendale features an extremely wide bridge over the railway tracks near ND station. The width of Greendale stays the same all the way down the hill and then narrows by half before rising up the hill on the other side. Seems odd.
  17. Yesterday I watched a pair of crows in a sycamore tree at the end of our garden and they were pecking at the branches. After some time I noticed they were removing the bark. They were taking the bark off in strips. When one of them got a length of about six inches he/she would fly off and return later. Short pieces would be discarded until a decent length was stripped off. I raised the topic with ChatGPT and it confirmed that crows prefer pliable strips of bark for use in building their nests. They seemingly are quite particular about the flexibility of the strips and use these to intertwine with twigs and grass stems to make their nests.
  18. Cracks caused by subsidence are quite distinctive. Suggest you post some photos of the cracks here and we will give you an assessment.
  19. Agreed 100%. Don't go near your insurance provider. You will condemn your property to massively increased premiums for ever more. Plus you will find it virtually impossible to switch insurers in the future.

    The fifth?

As every day goes by, it looks increasingly likely that Trump is going to sell Ukraine down the river. It's a re-run of Chamberlain and Hitler over Czechoslovakia. Trump talks of re-allocating "assets" which means conceding assets of Ukraine to Putin and of putting in peace-keeping forces into Ukraine to "guarantee" security. History tells us that peace-keeping forces are ineffective. Remember Bosnia & Hertzogovinia in 1996. Remember the peace keepers on the Golan Heights. They disappeared without firing a shot when Serbia and Israel took military action. It will be the same in Ukraine. Give it five years (or less) and Russia will extend its land grab. Sadly, history repeats itself because the appeasers fail to grasp the realities. Just pray that The Donald becomes the fifth before too long.
  21. For those wanting to boycott US products, it might be useful to consider a list of brands owned by Proctor and Gamble:- Ariel laundry detergent Crest toothpaste[4] Dawn dishwashing Downy fabric softener and dryer sheets Fairy washing up liquid Febreze odour eliminator Gillette razors, shaving soap, shaving cream, body wash, shampoo, deodorant Head & Shoulders shampoo Olay personal and beauty products Oral-B oral hygiene products Pantene haircare products Tide laundry detergents and products Vicks cough and cold products
  22. When it went from £20 to £40, we started sharing a bin and increased our composting efforts. But £84 is just too much to bear. I can see this having unintended consequences.

    The fifth?

For sure! It's seems like he is injecting Trump with steroids. Trump has got even more deranged ever since Vance became VP. Having read Hillbilly Elegy, I came to see where his insular , isolationist slant came from. But he's very bright , having graduated from Yale, but he is a dangerous individual with tunnel vision. He could be "the first" - that is the first VP to be assassinated. As for Trump, he can only face a rising tide of hostility from sacked government employees and mid-west farmers whose produce is subject to retaliatory import duties by China . Watch this space.

    The fifth?

Yes, time to drain the swamp that is the White House.
