  1. You might possibly consider that the the degree of scepticism and suspicion your original post encountered was largely due to the accusatory nature of the title in which you specifically identified a long-standing and respected local business. You also sensationalised the matter by using the words "poisoning" and "twice!" in the heading.
  2. @Earl, Be assured, it is purely a local group. In fact it is a genteel group of Dulwich area residents, mostly ladies , who are a little reluctant to publish their individual names as they do not wish to be targets for hostility from internet trolls. Local residents who attended the anti-LTN gatherings in Dulwich would have easily recognised the active members of the group. Should you have any queries about funding, it is quite easy to send them an email.
  3. Something doesn't quite smell right here and probably it's not the chicken. Both the OP and TheWeekEnd specifically mention chicken thigh fillets. TWE purchased £14 worth of chicken thigh fillets and they were thrown away "probably for the third time". £14 equates to around 12 fillets which is a lot. Could some have been frozen after purchase and then thawed? And thawed properly before cooking? TWE has a total of 4 posts of which 3 are on this thread.

  5. Good, that opens up more possibilities for you. Hopefully it is not too far away so that you may have the possibility to collect it. Acting promptly is important so that you get the matter resolved before they sell it on to someone else which is possible as all the parts they claim were missing were in fact there and functioning. Needless to say, it will be useful to monitor their F/B , Gumtree and Ebay listings.
  6. Did their on-line presence show a physical address?
  7. The freezing theory is just not appropriate here in London however your point about water penetration is correct. The tar top layer of the road is designed to act as a seal to prevent water penetrating into the lower strata of the road base. The top tar layer deteriorates over time but cracks in it are primarily generated by vehicles with high axle loadings e.g. trucks and buses. These high loadings cause deformation which results in cracking of the tar barrier. Water penetrates then via the cracks into the sub-base and the sub-base is degraded. Result = potholes. No frost is required.

  9. Smooth talking and shameless opportunist. Asked for an up-front callout fee of £40 just to have a look despite the job being accurately specified. His quote for the job was disproportionately excessive and was on top of the call out fee. He fails to appreciate that some customers might know more about plumbing than he does and they won't be taken in by any spiel designed to "big-up" the job and so try to justify disproportionate charges. If you need plumbing done, best to go elsewhere.

  11. Is there an architectural salvage business around these parts. I'm looking for a few 4" (Internal) red clay land drainage pipes (12" long) and some other related items.
  12. Only problem is that all the major components ( chassis, motor, gearbox ,axles, batteries etc) are made in China. They arrive here as fully assembled and running chassis. Only the external bodywork is added in the UK. A few decades ago, the UK had a highly successful bus manufacturing industry that exported busses all over the world. Such brands as Leyland, AEC, Guy, Albion and Dennis spring to mind. Sad, very sad!

    DPD are useless

I have always found them reliable and dependable. I have tried various couriers (both sending and receiving) over the years and DPD are one of the best, alongside Fed Express and DHL The one to avoid at all costs is Evri. They were previously known as Hermes but were so consistently bad they had to change their name to Evri.
  14. Just imagine if these these alleged hackers got access the biggest secret in the world of food and beverages ie the recipe for Coca Cola.
  15. That's for sure! Any government has to protect the tax revenue stream. Hence as more people adopt EV's, the tax take on petrol and diesel consumption decreases. Similarly as fewer people smoke tobacco, the overall tax take deceases. So they have to increase other taxes somehow. The latest tax madness is to penalise has been subsidising heat pumps but these are inefficient, expensive and have a limited lifetime. They also produce lower temperatures necessitating replacement of all existing radiators with much larger ones. It's all a big con based on bait and switch.
  16. I make nesting boxes and have a spare sparrow nesting "terrace". This "terrace" is a wooden box with 3 separate nesting boxes all joined together. Sparrows are gregarious and like nesting in groups Ideally it should be mounted on a North-facing wall and close to an open area such as a park or overgrown vacant lot. Even better if you have seen sparrows in the area. If you think your location can meet these criteria, please get in touch and I will check out the location. Should be positioned under the eaves, facing North to North East Photos adde to show front that hinges down for cleaning purposes.

  20. The questionnaire doesn't seem to bear much relationship to the geography that I was taught. It speaks volumes about the failure of our education system in terms of its priorities and orientation.
  21. @Malumbu Some Councils subsidise the cost of replacing lead supply pipes within the boundary of the house owners property. So was that the reason the replaced the pipe across your garden?
  22. If , as you say, you both have been sick twice from eating poultry in the last month, then I would suggest that your storage and cooking procedures should be reviewed. Food poisoning is very, very rare. I havnt hand an incidence in the last 20 years.
  23. Making such a direct insinuation/accusation against a named retailer is clearly defamatory and damaging to the retailer's reputation. It will be considered by many to be libellous. Spartacus has rightly said there are many variables and other factors to be taken into account when cooking chicken. It is good policy to consider such factors before making direct such implications.
