  1. "I use SMART objectives to maximise the personal and professional development of my team." HR jargon, gratuitous use of the word 'team' and POWER-VERBS for the win. (Ugh.) Now if only I could remember what smart objectives are... S-something, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and T-something - probably targeted. Good luck Keef. Hope the job's worth the jargon.
  2. It's a common situation: you find yourself about to pay for something with no idea what a reasonable price might be. Seems to me that this is where the shared wisdom of the forum can work for everyone's benefit. To start us off - I'm about to get a scratch over a wheel arch resprayed. Never had summat like this done before and so have no idea how much I can expect to shell out. What do you lot think?
  3. Just spotted this site, looks rather good. Lens hire at more sensible prices than I've seen elsewhere. http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/
  4. Chas and Dave:
  5. I think it's great. And given that, with proper care, it could live for another few hundred years I think it's a good choice too, as it's well suited to our future climate.

    Behold!

Behold, shorts! http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/31/fashion/31shorts.html?no_interstitial Now then, who's going to buy some over the weekend and give this a go in the office come Monday?
  7. Hard to judge, as 10 years ago I was only just starting my first job. I'd expect to be better off now (and am, thank goodness) but I think that's got more to do with where I am in my life and less to do with the government. (Edited for speelign.)
  8. I'm 'ennery the eighth I am I am... 1 August - no good for me. 5 September - yup, should be there.
  9. That's pure ace, that is.

    Behold!

But will it burn the bottom off my silver jumpsuit? I need to know!
  11. Are you also as serious as cancer? Oh wait, no, that was their other song wasn't it?
  12. I'll second Loz's post. The Dog does awful, awful roasts. Such a disappointment. Herne's have been good though.
  13. I think you can fix air locks simply by blowing up your tap (ie huffing and puffing; not the semtex method). It's worked for me before - but perhaps that's just for small air locks, and these are on a more industrial scale? Anyway, might be worth a go before you shell out for a plumber.
  14. Perhaps the fire was fierce mere water was no match. Its legs (struts?) may have carried on burning all the way to the seabed.
  15. Elizabeth My Dear - Stone Roses
  16. For Young Electric Pop - Polysics. (Or, if you're a stickler: POLYSICS.)
  17. I'd imagine there'd be one slight difference, Jah.
  18. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7528258.stm I particularly like number 2.
  19. Seems to be back to normal this morning, usual pressure and all that. Plough end of Landells.
  20. I once worked as a night porter in a hotel. That was 'kin awful. But it was in a ski resort, so not all bad. Washed up in the kitchens of a huge office building that had a canteen for all the staff. That was hot, greasy and grim. Funniest? Hmm... er... I'll get back to you.
  21. Ooh, that looks pretty good!
  22. Ahem, oops. Or bloody L, even. :)
  23. By 'found', do you mean 'wrote'?
  24. Apparently the core data upon which most nutritional science is based is inherently flawed. So, meh, whatever. Just eat sensibly - yunno, a bit of veg and that, not too much processed crap - and you'll be OK.
  25. I reckon there's a good chance you could actually make some money selling this story to the Daily Mail. Just find an interviewee on whose experience to hang it all for the human angle, dress it up a bit with a few suitable quotes and away you go.
