Mbeki needs to grow a spine and have a word, but I feel it may already be too late. Am aware of issues around public perceptions of/support for the two leaders in Africa re the struggle against colonialism etc., but I think everyone would agree that it's moved way beyond that now. Zim's problems are all down to Mugabe!

Have just spoken to the noise pollution lot at the council. Their suggestion is to call when the cockerel kicks off and they'll log it as a 'rapid response' call and send someone out ASAP. Essentially they're going to treat it the same way as they would a dog barking constantly. They've acknowledged that he will probably have stopped by the time they get out there, but said that it's still worth calling none the less. Also the fact that this bird seems to indulge in a few bouts of crowing throughout the morning means if they hang around a bit they may well hear him eventually. IMHO M&S food is very expensive for what it is, and not always as high-quality as they like to make out. Not impressed. Now a Waitrose, on the other hand...

Who did you complain to on the council? I'll add my complaint too - perhaps if enough people kick up a fuss they'll do something about it.

The problem is that I'm not woken by the cockerel itself, but by wailing of the Antlings once it's woken them too early. I heard it at half eight this morning too, but you're doing him a disservice to call him lazy; that was an encore. This morning's main performance was around 5.00 a.m. as per usual.

Definitely, although from what I hear cockerel's aren't great for meat. Could probably boil it up for stock.

The pattern is that it wakes us around 5.00 then goes quiet until 6.30-7.00 when it clears the old pipes again. Then it gives it another go at around 8.30 to 9.00 just before I go to drop the kids at nursery.

Not that daft if you stop to think about it. I'd prefer a smaller burger and a smaller price rather than feel compelled either to overeat or to share - especially as Mrs Ant has very different taste to mine.

Am at the Lordship Lane end of Landells, so I'd be surprised if it was the Horniman one. Also, if it was possible to hear him from here I'd have expected to have done so before now. It sounds as if it's quite close by.

Up absurdly early again this morning. At first I couldn't hear the dreaded bird and was beginning to doubt my sanity. But then it piped up again. No doubt about it: some idiot is keeping a cockerel in East Dulwich. Now... to find out where it is and get the council to remove it.

I'll second Sean's post. Excellent pub now since being spruced up, albeit with the occasional (small) problem. But any pub can have off days. Great beers, ever-changing bitters being a definite big plus... in fact, I quite fancy a pint there myself pretty soon, it's been a little while.

For the last few days the Antlings - and therefore I - have been woken very early by what sounds very much like a cockerel crowing. Has anyone else heard it? I understand that this is what they do, and that it's unreasonable to expect them to stop. Which leads me to wonder just what sort of antisocial eejit would keep one in such a densely populated area in the first place. Grumble grumble grumble.
