  1. the other option is a secondhand "proper" camera from somewhere like Computer Exchange - we bought our (then 7yo) daughter an amazing Olympus digital point and shoot with proper zoom for ?25. This is the fall out of everyone having decent cameras on their phones now - the resale value of digital cameras is really low. It means that if she does take any pictures that you want to actually print the quality is good enough, and it will grow with her which a Vtech might not - daughter (now 9) wouldn't use one of those now as it would be babyish whereas she still uses her camera (admittedly taking selfies of herself and her toys!!)
  2. No, they won't leave a child without a place but they won't be able to open up a place in a class that's full, so you may end up in a school further away than you'd like initially.
  3. Also a new cake shop in Herne Hill on Norwood Road (near Ollies fish and chips and Bokis hairdressers)
  4. the Bridge in Sydenham has a nice small pool and isn't as busy as others. pools also in Forest Hill and Beckenham, but both get busy so worth phoning to check (e.g. Forest hill start selling tickets at a quarter to the hour and there's always a big queue and that hour's session sells out within a couple of minutes usually (on weekend mornings anyway)
  5. Don't know, but Athenlay are recruiting girls for their football team - aged 9-11 - training 12-1.30 just by Harris girls, in case you're interested. Not linked, but daughter goes and they need more girls to go!
  6. Husband went on daughter's school trip last year (they were 8-9) and they all loved it - admittedly a bit older but got a v good report. Friend has been recommending it since kids were about 5!
  7. Agree, good prompt - thanks - have emailed David Laws and copied in Tessa Jowell.
  8. General stars is very good - think they do Tuesdays as well. Search on this forum will bring up contact details.
  9. Freedom Academy runs at Goodrich School
  10. There's somewhere in Sydenham - http://www.cinderellaofficeservices.co.uk/classic/ - they may be able to help?
  11. There's a handy brochure you can get from the Lewisham site (think I actually accessed it via the Sydenham High website) which lists all Lewisham schools, including bus links, which is handy to see which are easily accessible and which aren't...
  12. And that website has a list of participating garden centres near motorways (http://www.thegardencentregroup.co.uk/services/motorway-service-station-alternatives/participating-garden-centres) - what a good idea!
  13. A friend of mine has just had plinth drawers put into her kitchen, among other things to address the tupperware issue. Think it's a genius idea - wasted space otherwise! think she got them from Howdens but might be wrong about that
  14. Good for you - thanks for leting us know. What time is the match?
  15. I used Direct Line who were good, but that was nearly 10 years ago!
  16. This is quite a good one (http://www.yeolderedlion.com/) - food not too badly priced (especially if your alternative is a service station!!) - I wouldn't say cheap, but OK. Plenty of choice - sandwiches, nibbly things, full meals as well. Directions here (http://www.yeolderedlion.com/location/) but basically it's about 5 minutes off the M4 at Jn 13 and easy to find!
  17. I think on nursery days it's quite important to give yourself and the child some time together. Would be tempted to "ignore" your mother, in the nicest possible way! As long as she's getting enough sleep, that's fine!
  18. Or Forest Hill, Sydenham (the bridges), Crystal Palace or Bromley - plenty to chose from!
  19. Have enjoyed the Sanctuary in the past, though haven't been for a few years...
  20. Definitely a dishwasher - otherwise it's no kind of holiday!! Also a few bits and pieces in case it rains - few games or something - though appreciate that can be v subjective. Definitely towels and tea towels - we always take tea towels with us as there are never enough (even with a dishwasher - what do I do to them, I wonder!!??). If you're targetting families with kids decent kitchen is important as they're unlikely to be going out to eat much (except lunchtime) and so likely to need facilities for breakfast/supper.
  21. Can someone put up the numbers which were shown last night about the bulge classes in Southwark primaries and the way these will affect the secondary requirements in future - these should be fairly persuasive...
  22. Daughter did Dulwich College Sport (Fit for Sport) last summer for the same week, and at half term. "wasn't as good as AVP" according to her (age 9) but she is very resistant to change and so determined to not like it from the start! however, she did enjoy it, did range of different sports and activities, as well as swimming. She'll go again if AVP isn't open!! PM if any more questions.
