  1. Liz, yes, it chops stuff and mixes cakes too...
  2. Love mine (think is Magimix or Moulinex, bought last year after previous Kenwood died aged about 10) but don't use for veg chopping etc on a daily basis as couldn't be bothered with the washing up! Great for baking (mix fairy cakes in less than 5 mins) and for blending soup (has separate blender bowl). Not as good as my Kenwood was, but couldn't find a like for like replacement sadly. Amazon cheapest for them (but they would be as they don't pay tax...!)
  3. A friend's daughter is at Kilmore and seems very happy there and does very well
  4. radhabee - she'll definitely love those then - they've got them in Tales on Moon Lane in Herne Hill - I was in there at lunchtime!
  5. Few more books for the list - Green Smoke by Rosemary Manning, Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf and Polly and the Wolf again by Catherine Storr - these are old titles which have been republished, but great female characters. Polly in particular, keeps getting the better of the wolf - daughter loved that!
  6. Read them Revolting Rhymes by Roald Dahl - great take on Cinderella etc! Agree re world book day too - thankfully daughter went as Katie from Katie and the Dinosaurs, was accompanied to school by Hermione, some witches (including the grand High Witch from the Witches by Roald Dahl) and Mrs Pepperpot - pleased to see the lack of princesses!
  7. Ikea one - cheap and cheerful. Paper roll on one side, blackboard (with tray for chalk etc) on the other. Daughter has had hers for ?3-4 years and still uses regularly.
  8. AVP is good - quite energetic https://www.avpsports.co.uk/index.php?page=home-3 Not cheap but they enjoy it and you can almost fit in a whole day's work...
  9. I would advertise in GG school and St John's and Elizabeth's if you can - ask the teachers directly as they're most likely to want that sort of arrangement!
  10. Thanks to all
  11. Thanks to all
  12. Does anyone have details of local climbing walls where 8yos can go and have a go? Am aware of the one at JAGS (but not costs or whether is possible to just drop in) and the one at Crystal Palace, but any others? Recommendations welcom Thanks!
  13. Went to new pool at Forest Hill yesterday - lovely new changing rooms, hot showers, pool busy but not too busy, and that was 10am on a Sunday. Maybe worth voting with your feet?
  14. Sanctuary is great and easy to get to (Covent Garden) - not sure how much it would cost though or if they would have availability... Travelzoo quite often has offers - might be worth googling to see if they have any?
  15. Not sure what brands we used - think one was from B&Q and one from Homebase, because we had half a tin to start with (obtained from school sale!) then quickly realised we'd need another. Certainly had at least 3 coats I think, but ultimately worth it to make sure properly magnetic. As paint full of metal particles is thick and so quite hard to paint, and probably ruins brush (husband did painting, not sure what happened to brush afterwards), so use old brush and chuck it afterwards probably easier than cleaning! Still worth it in long run though!
  16. We've got some chalkboard paint which is also magnetic - great fun but... difficult to paint (very thick paint) and certainly not glossy (deceptive magazines) but blackboards aren't really glossy... Great to have though - good for drawings, magnetic words, playing word games on (Magnetic scrabble, anyone) - can see it lasting us well. Daughter now 8 - we've had it there for about 18months.
  17. As said, no etiquette - my baby puked copiously over the person next to me (who thankfully I knew, so was slightly less mortifying) during one screening, and we just mopped it all up and carried on...
  18. You could ask one of the city farms - Vauxhall or Mudchute?
  19. Put under the bird in the roasting tin while cooking, then take out when all cooked, eat the ones you like, e.g. Liver, pour off any fat and either deglaze with some wine or cider, or use cornflour or normal flour to make gravy, using stock or veg water. Yummy!
  20. What about women who suddenly turn out to be a high-risk pregnancy during labour - lots of blue-lighting to Kings, which obviously has the capacity to cope with a lot more difficult births... that on top of the 25% of patients who aren't seen at Lewisham - madness
  21. Mine did the same - I got very good at preparing whatever I was going to do with my half hour of peace before I put her down for her nap, whether it was something exciting like housework or more interesting like a cup of tea and a magazine on the sofa. That meant that the moment she was down I could do it - tea already made, magazine and biscuits ready, you get the picture! You could set a clock by her half hour naps when she was little - v frustrating when other babies were doing 1-2 hours but it did get better as she got older
  22. Could anyone from the nursery do it - come to you early, sort baby out and then take her to nursery? Worth asking the nursery? Hope he recovers soon
  23. Agree with Twirly - cycling on main roads was fine this morning, but avoided side roads. Does seem to have been a lot of thawing today, so hopefully temperature won't drop too much tonight and freeze it all again...
  24. Check the website or goodrich_school on twitter - updates usually fairly early on school days but not sure if will be pre-7am...
  25. That's useful to know - prob explains why we've got low water pressure on Overhill rd. Hope they fix it soon...
