  1. Aquarium is great for kids but pricey - cheaper if you book tickets online in advance, and you can also jump the queues if you do that. Also if they're coming by train they may be entitled to some offers with their train tickets - worth checking... Agree south bank good, if the weather's OK and the tide is out there are some little bits of beach along the edge of the Thames near Gabriel's Wharf which can be fun. London Eye also an option but also expensive, though again better with prebooked tickets.
  2. Gynae physio at Kings was very good in terms of making sure exercises are correct - thankfully didn't need surgery, hope you can find someone who can reassure you about that. Think it's the unspoken thing about childbirth - I miss my pelvic floor!!
  3. There are a few threads on this in the family room, but can recommend Dulwich general gym stars who run at the charter school on mon and weds
  4. Camicaze in the how to train you dragon series (from about the 3rd book onwards). Apparently written specifically after Cressida Cowell's daughter berated her for the lack of good female characters. Brave, clever and funny - my daughter loves her! Also clever polly and the stupid wolf, Clarice Bean, Ottoline books by Chris Riddell, agent amelia, the worst witch, and don't forget Matilda by Roald Dahl! Can't do much older but plenty about for 7-9 yr old girls:)
  5. I think there is a bookshop on Great Marlborough Street (parallel to Oxford Street, between Poland Street and Ramilles Street, behind M&S) which sells bilingual editions of a few popular children's books - have seen Gruffalo, Stick Man, Elmer, Miffy in there. Miffy has been translated into a few languages I think.
  6. Never used them but also heard very good things about Daisy Lets
  7. you can get married at the horniman - lovely but pricey. The room at Southwark registry office is pretty, and lovely view onto a garden (which you have access to afterwards) so might be worth a look if you're after somewhere reasonably priced...
  8. Worth googling for discount codes and booking online if you want to go - we saved about 30% by that a few years ago. Enjoy!
  9. I tend to agree with Molly - I felt that as I didn't know anything about phonics better to leave that to the experts (nursery at school)(though maybe this is lazy working mum justification!!). Agree good to encourage looking at bits of books and discussing what happened.
  10. Dulwich general gym club - contact Tania Griffiths on dulwichggclub@googlemail.com or web dulwichggclub.com
  11. Apparently the drop-in one at Harris Girls school is restarting today - don't know what time. Also Dulwich General gym stars at the Charter school on Mon and Weds.
  12. Another recommendation for the snowman - it's an amazing show!
  13. I think Scamps is just Easter and summer - daughter already campaigning to be able to go at Easter!
  14. Dulwich general gym stars is a good gym club ( search this forum for threads) - mon and weds at the charter school...
  15. That's a great idea - also as an option for an unbroken night's sleep for parents. Hope it does well
  16. I'm surprised for those years - which schools have you asked at? Bigger schools like goodrich likely to have spaces as 3 form entry. Good luck
  17. The ones in brockwell park can be booked by phone - not sure of the cost.
  18. Search below - few threads on this. Seems that overground fr F. Hill then jubilee works well
  19. Likewise - daughter is nearly through her second week there and loves it. Michael was v helpful this week for us. Sorry you had a bad experience
  20. Daughter has just had black daps for pe at goodrich and that's always been fine. Socks/tights tend to be white, grey or blue.
  21. And also these hospitality houses look interesting - not strictly directly Olympics related http://www.visitlondon.com/london2012/national-hospitality-houses-for-london-2012/ The Danish one has a model of the Olympic park built out of Lego!
  22. Magic Faraway Tree and the other two Enchanted Wood titles by Enid Blyton are good
  23. Also lots of recommendations from TfL to avoid London Bridge if possible as will be chaos, so bear that in mind.
  24. Bus to Lewisham then via DLR I should think.
  25. We rang our bike bells - couldn't hear many others though... Hope neighbours don't hate us!
