  1. Balfe's are very helpful for sizing - on the parade opposite Tescos on East Dulwich Road...
  2. Might be useful for people http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2012/jul/24/50-free-things-in-london-south-east
  3. P13 bus goes between the two, but not that often - every 10-15 mins and is pretty busy in the mornings. Depending where you are in ED, walking or cycling might be quicker
  4. My daughter has trousers specifically for days when she has PE to save her taking tights on and off, and she's 7!
  5. We've done little kickers in the past but don't know when they're running this year - worth a Google though!
  6. We do childminder after school, who is amazing but the cost of full-time childminding over holidays is too much. We're offering daughter some visits to grandparents but at 7 she might be a little bit young for that. Also a bit of husband not taking work (he's a freelancer), scamps, there's a summer camp at Gumboots, also Beckenham Spa which we're looking at. The thing I find hardest is fitting in with start/finish times - we're splitting a couple of days with friends so one will take all kids to scamps so the other can go to work early and then the other will finish work early and pick them all up. School works as husband drops daughter and i pick her up from childminder, but if the club only runs 9-4 as many do that's not that helpful... SB - yes, you will need some sort of childcare with school unless you can work the drop off between you/husband? The upside is that - summer hols notwithstanding - childcare is suddenly much cheaper when they're at school, and I think quite a lot of childminders do the before/after school thing.
  7. We liked afternoons but only have one, so no little one to worry about. No early morning rush - there'll be plenty of that when he starts school proper!
  8. Or via Forest Hill changing at East Croydon, saves you going into London Bridge in the first place
  9. Eltham Palace is lovely too - worth a look
  10. St Faith's church hall at bottom of Red Post hill is a nice building (we had our reception there) but you have to bring in caterers, bar and disco. Right sort of size though... Relatively close to Southwark registry office as well.
  11. There is an H&M in Brixton but not sure how big the kids section is...
  12. Don't know - keeping our daughter's black out curtains closed definitely keeps her room cooler - might be worth trying that again?
  13. Also worth trying Computer Exchange places - we got a lovely little Olympus for our daughter for ?25 - originally sold for about ?400. Allows you to get a better camera which is just slightly older, and you can look at them all and decide unlike Ebay. One on Walworth Road, or a couple along Tottenham Court Road around Goodge St station.
  14. The Glades in Bromley has slides and a wave machine, though min height on main chutes is 120cm (I think)
  15. Charlie and Lola books, Clarice Bean (all by Lauren Child, though Clarice Bean might be a bit old for her yet), Daisy and the trouble with... series by Kes Gray, Ottoline books by Chris Riddell (again probably better when she's a bit older). In the 4th "How to train your dragon" book and onwards, there is a great girl called Kamikazi who is a master burglar and gets the heroes out of trouble on a few occasions. Will have another think and see what else I can remember (daughter now 7 and loved these when smaller). Also Roald Dahl - no wimpy female characters there...
  16. Yes, it's still on weds, 4.30 to 5.30 and 5.30 to 6.30. Can thoroughly recommend - pm if any questions
  17. Poor you, that sounds like a lot going on in your head. I'm not a doctor but wonder if you're suffering from depression? Worth discussing with your GP? Also are you sure staying at home is the right decision for you, rather than what you think is right for your daughter? If your identity is partly tied up with your career that might explain some of the feelings...
  18. The one at Dulwich college is run by avp sports - sorry don't have address to hand. Is about ?40 per day but do different sport every day plus swimming and bouncy play which is very good fun. Daughter went last year when she was 6 for a week and loved it - will be doing 2 weeks this summer. Good range of sports to try which we liked. They can do art or more sport in the afternoon depending on what they choose.
  19. Pot of bubbles, balloon to blow up, tootie-blower thing (unless you want to remain friend with their parents!), small bag of Haribo, small sheet of stickers, temporary tattoos, pretty pencil - you should be able to do some of that for about 50p per bag, plus a piece of cake? You can get little (about an inch high) pots of bubbles from Tesco which I would imagine are fairly cheap... Hope it goes well.
  20. Tricky one. I'm not mad on 3d films but the trailer for that did look like the effects might work well. However will your daughter wear the glasses for the whole thing? Mine went to a couple of 3d films at about that age and wore the glasses for such a short time it must have been a blur... If it's her first trip to the cinema i'd probably go 2d.
  21. There's one which runs in the church hall on Barry Road - St Peter / St Clements Church Hall, Friern Road, London, SE22 0AU - Entrance on Barry Road, opposite Silvester Road. If you can't find anywhere else, there are fliers up in their entrance hall and inside the hall - not sure which pack it is though...
  22. Teddy bears picnic?
  23. How about asking one of the teaching assistants at your son's school - timing would work and more likely to be able to go to your house. Also likely to appreciate a bit more cash and might be able to help with holidays...
  24. Can you find a childminder at your son's school who can pick him up and could your daughter move to that childminder instead - you could hand her over so to speak at morning school drop off? Would think that easier than bringing them back to your house, especially with long drive involved? Nanny share with someone else at school might also work though probably at their house rather than yours? Good luck with it - I remember when pregnant we thought it would all become easier when they go to school whereas in fact it gets more complicated...
  25. Ours charges ?5 per hour
