  5. Even I'm not that geeky ;-)
  6. 2 places in Madrid for you. El Botin, just off the Plaza Mayor. Great sopa de ajo, and you might be lucky enough to sit where my mother was sitting when her waters broke for my brother. La Trucha (the trout) in the old theatre district; you cannot get a more typical Madrile?o tapas establishment, be sure to have a bit of spanish with you y ten coraje (especially with the sheep's brains)!
  7. I'm not sure TP was missing something, I think we may have just played the same game once too often. It's lovely but beginning to get a tad jaded, like oooh, I dunno, Felicity Kendall. Though, yeah, it did steer you more towards the linear adventure than some pervious, with less pointless (but fun) side stuff to do. Same goes for the DS one, though still a joy to play.
  8. I noticed that Spearmint Rhino (I work very nearby) have lots of St Georges** flag helium balloons in its doorway today. Not sure what patriotic services are on offer today. Come, allow fit eastern europeans to con you out of a hundred pounds for a glass of 'champagne'....in English*!! *warning, may cause irreversible liver damage or death **I misspelled this and firefox spellcheck offered erroneous and erogenous interestingly enough
  9. Ooh missed your shoegazers reference there Louisiana. This is an overrated thread, but if ever a movement was more underated or hated. Slowdive have a special place in my collection. Incidentally Radiohead do not.
  10. New Labour is, and as far as I can tell has always been, self-serving, morally bankrupt and devoid of any real substance to their ideas. Tony's lovely smile and slick PR machine kept the gloss going until his Iraq and Lebanon stances helped his true colours show through. "Go Tony, give Gordon a chance" they said. Gordon at least has some (not a huge amount, but some) integrity, but he's a terrible at the politics game as redefined in the modern era, in terms of media management and presentation. Most of the woes are of this government and this party's making, from years of PFI, off-balance sheet payments, to the 'efficiency savings' pushed through at every level of the public sector, ie sack those who know their jobs and hire rubbish management consultants (back to that off balance sheet). Expensive white elephants, stupid initiative after stupid initiative. Depend entirely on the housing market and cheap credit to encourage spending for growth and fingers crossed no bubble will ever burst. UK may not have been responsible for sub-prime, but it was soooo predictable and we could have been prepared for. So now they're unpopular again and the knives are out. Won't make a jot off difference, who next, Harman, Jowell, god forbid (and I really hope he does) Blears??!!? The Parliamentary Labour is bankrupt (actually in every sense) and nothing can disguise that. They've had it coming a long time and nothing can save them. Sadly it's back to the Tories *weeps silently and checks passport is up to date*
  11. I'd agree with Jah, Stone Roses doesn't stand up to close analysis in the same way that Star Wars doesn't, but if it was the whole fabric of right sound, right place, right time, and now it's so interwoven into special memories. Along with Acid House it quite literally blew my socks off!
  12. Totally agree with Harry Hill, seems a nice enough chap though. Actually rather like the Mighty Boosh, though got there very late.
  13. That's bad because?????......
  14. I love the old games enough to get the wii version (though the N64 version was a bit insipid), despite the lukewarm reception. Oh, and welcome to the forum Seph, good choice of room for a first post :D
  15. Never done an FF, my young step brother loves them though. I watched the film once, had noooooo idea what all that was about. Mind you, I watched Geeks favourite Serenity on Saturday and gave up about half way through; terrible editing, it made even less sense than the FF film!! I'm guessing you need to have watched the series.
  16. I've been on many forums and I've left many forums. On the whole I leave because of a tendency to troll, flame and a general lack of decorum. I've liked it here, I've liked the humour and the banter and the range of opinion. We've been through the whole censorship and bullying thing before and it still doesn't stand up to any scrutiny. On this thread some people found a certain attitude distasteful and expressed that opinion. They did not attempt to censor, merely took umbrage in someone's thinly disguised and rather insistent schadenfreude. I'm rather ambivalent towards quids who annoys and impresses me with equal measure, but have found him to often be supercilious and patronising, hardly an attitude to endear oneself to anyone. That's as may be and entirely his prerogative, but it does seem out of kilter in someone who is so comfortable in their own opinions to leap about shouting 'help help I'm being oppressed'. Clamour all you want for the end to the oppression of those with 'too much time' who are sneered at so often; it's misdirection; try to concentrate and contribute to the continuance of this resource as one that is a useful and enjoyable asset to life locally. And frankly, careful what you ask for, you might just get it.
  17. Sorry to hear that UC, though you had made some noises about trying something else, so I'm not entirely surprised. Good luck in whatever job or retraining you decide to opt for.
  18. just heard on Radio4 "One of the great misconceptions about immigration is they do the jobs British folk can't be bothered to do. Like clean toilets, drive buses, score 20 goals a season." Racism can never be rationalised no matter how much anyone declares it to be so; it's hate, pure and simple.
  19. have any of you played LOTRO? I've Been to the Prancing Pony!!!!!!
  20. Sean Maguire?!? Blimey, I thought he'd found a second wind in dreadful US sitcoms. Incidentally I had a chat with him once over a pint at a lunchtime visit to Browns, the classy one in Shoreditch, many years ago in netween his collapsed pop career and his move to the States (via doing something that Alan Dale would never do). Nice fella as it went.
  21. I ordered my telly from a t'interweb firm based out of Croydon. For an extra ?50 (fifty quid!!!) I could have my telly in a couple of days, else I'd have to wait up to 28 days. When I asked how come, they said that there was avan coming my way and my telly would be on it. I replied, that as it was their van and my telly, and given that were I to pay the cash there would obviously be room for it in said van, then why didn't they just put the telly on the van and not have to worry about it ever again. But you'd have to pay the ?50 pounds they responded. This circular argument went through a couple of iterations until the chap said something on the lines of 'well if you don't pay the extra you never know, they might not be as careful, they might drop it' I laughed and said was he seriously proposing to damage my telly unless he extorted maoney out of me; he realised what he'd said, backtracked a bit and the conversation more or less ended there. I got my telly a week later. That's Croydon for you!!
  22. I never suspected a hidden geek in there Anna!! *doffs pointy hat* Welcome Geo, I'm attempting to be a reformed oldbie with limited success....beware!!
  23. will be glad to have you on board. Did a (very) late sms call to arms, but understandably only one responded.
  24. Coca leaves. Get a bunch and shove them in your cheek. Works wonders, apparently enhance's your bloods ability to store oxygen.
  25. I think 6. Our sporting prowess really scuppered us. Every one learnt a new fact though. Apparently the Jews ate a poisoned apple in the desert in the flight from Egypt?!
