  1. Hello Liz and welcome. It won't be long before you're signing off sick because you've signed up to the forum ;-)
  2. Ha ha, that's pretty good. I went to Ireland from Southend-on-Sea airport the other day, which was kind of similar, minus the blue sky obviously.
  3. I suspect its more to do with not alienating customer base than social responsibility. I bet you they haven't rolled it out across all their brands.
  4. actually its 2 drinks full stop at weatherspoons. They feel they don't have facilities for kids so it's cruel to keep them in a pub for longer than that apparently....or something.
  5. I think this is the one. Just after visiting Santa and his elf.
  6. Yeah they gave Mrs MP's niece over from Ireland short chopsticks and a little lesson as it was first time she'd used them. She got to keep them too!!
  7. "London, proving you can photograph the sun." Yeah, had a go meself once. Loved the crazy garden there woodie!
  8. I'm a total sucker for tilt shift shots. Most are fake, where you mess about with them in photoshop a bit to make them look like a miniature world, but even so good ones are hard to find. These from BeckyE and Roger worked ok I reckon
  9. "someone who was trained in survival skills, was extremely good looking, intelligent and witty - and who could cook" So I'm thinking some one with forestry skills, but homely and beautiful....hmmmm a forrester perhaps?
  10. I guess it's just a theme people are interested in visiting. Think Day of the Triffids which marginally predates it, or even Robinson Crusoe (headhunters/zombies/thing under the bed...you know). Almost watched it this weekend, but didn't think the missus would go for it at all, she has a knack of falling asleep in cinemas, so went with subtitles so you have to concentrate more. May buy Pan's Labyrinth on DVD today if it's cheap.
  11. One Ant discovered a little while back, but definitely worth a post.
  12. I love the staff in Chener Books. It's a sort of lettered version of the music shop in High Fidelity, but it's all the better for that. For every sharp intake of breath through pursed lips at purchase, I also get a raised eyebrow and approving nod. Love it.
  13. Franklins are pretty uncompromising (ask for something well done, go on I dare you) so I can't see that happening.
  14. I'm doing likewise Brendan, so I'll be avoiding the cobras and sticking to the lassis
  15. Or if you can do city airport... But agreed, I never enjoy the Heathrow route.
  16. I loved Hot Fuzz, but then I'm a complete Spaced idiot, so they'd have to work hard to upset me. Agree about History Boys, it didn't feel right in a grange hill-esque environment and it didn't make the leap well to celluloid. Award laden as the cast were, perhaps it may have benefited from a cast who didn't know the material so well. Had a chat with the lead boy in the Canning about film piracy, bizzarrely one evening. Nice lad.
  17. Really want to see letter from iwo jima, something to fill the january void. Mrs Mockney and I caught The Kite Runner at Brixton last night and both enjoyed it. You can detect the blodged of hollywood that being a dreamworks film has added, but still retains much of the foreign film feel. Worth a watch for sure.
  18. That's a great one of the blue mountains, not sure I'd seen that before. Yes, Wee Quinnie, it's a beautiful photo, by our very own BarryRoad in case you're curious.
  19. Yeah, but it was very funny MP.
  20. OK PR, have posted some instructions at the top of the page and took the liberty of posting your cat up too. There are quite a few snappy types on the forum, and their photos are to be found scattered throughout, I just thought it'd be nice to get a place where people can appreciate good photography. Here's one from a forumite of our own dear Peckham Rye
  21. Most people are saying it's a slip of the tongue, that she meant Daniel Pearl. Easy enough to do. I saw a debate on this elsewhere and the one interesting thing that could be teased out of a lot of tin-foil-hat nonsense was that the FBI have never indicted him with 11th of the 9th, whereas they did for the '93 car bombings of the towers. Most don't credit him personally as the mastermind anyhow, more of a spiritual figurehead rather than tactical one.
  22. Do critics simply dare not put White Stripes and Radiohead high up their Lists, it rather lacks imagination doesn't it? Been disappointed with White stripes since Elephant, and I really can't be bothered with Radiohead anymore. Panda Bear seem to be at or near the top of alot of them this year. I have it, its a nice chilled album and I do love Animal Collective, but its not a world beating album by any stretch. I loved the Britney Spears write up though!
  23. I'm with you Keef. Bar etiquette was something about this country that made me so proud, and it's vanishing. I understood if I was forced to meet a mate down an all bar one full of t0ssp0t lawyers waving ?50 notes in a bid to queue jump, down holborn or something, but these days it's spread out from there, even as far as the territories (herts, beds etc)
  24. Dear GOd will this short week ever end?!?! Ah well, while we wait.. Dogs Die in Hot Cars - I love you cos I have to
