Wow, interesting stuff, and great to see a debate stay civil over 4 pages!! Bravo. A couple of scattershot points from me. Acid hasn't had fatalities but can result in acute and/or chronic psychosis, I ended up with a couple of months of anxiety attacks after overdoing it in my youth. *Bob* I 'got it' back in 1990, and it was an amazing time, though I think that vibe (eek, horrible word) died very quickly as alcohol and cocaine seeped then flooded back into the scene. I haven't been near those little pills in 15 years now. But again harmless they ain't. Apart from the techno anoraks and house muic bores, I also saw friends become horrible weekenders, some of whom ended up spiralling into severe depression as your serotonin depletion gets you all over the shop and one of whom keeled over into his sunday lunch at his mum's, dead as a doornail, his heart just gave up; might have been a year of taking 10-20 pills over a weekend, might have been entirely unrelated. And just as a point for discussion, there are NO drugs here in Singapore. Severe penalties for possession and death for smuggling. It might be prohibition working, it might be that policing the borders of an island city state is much easier. Plus next to no crime nor violence. Nor democracy nor police, apart from the hordes of secret ones. Illiberal place, but it certainly functions.

I starred (third donkey to the left) in a bunch of nativity plays growing up and it never did me any harm (not like that heavy metal music...from the devil I tell you). It's tradition, it's fun and as has been mentioned, it's also usually a bit sh!t; who cares. Let us do it without a guilt complex and enjoy our little ones fluffing their lines, save the truth vs myth debate til the little fellas are 11 or 12 ... or 53 going on 11 or 12 ;).

I'd normally be right with you guys, but at the oment it's 27 degrees at night with 90-100% humidity, so am liking its good work. I'll change my tune in a couple of days of course!!

Yeah, I caught them in Balinaboola (no idea about the spelling) the first time I ever popped into to see the then new girlfriend as my dad and brother and I went to kerry for new years. Somebody tried to explain all about the splits, reforms, splinters and so on, but it sounded very comlicated. These chaps weren't considered originals, but sufficed for a v v small town. Half Mrs Mockney-To-Be's mates thought we'd never survive the gig, but I had a great time. I actually think the locals next to us found it more uncomfortable than my bruv and I did at each 'oop the ra'. We just drank and shrugged our shoulders, I think alot of it's to do with the motions, and the kids didn't even really know what it was all about (wexford is hardly rebel central after all). The incredibly drunk chap in the bogs who could barely pee straight and informed me that the only the only good brit was a dead one got the shock of his life when i put on my daftest posh accent i could muster and replied "I should say old chap, top ho" and left with a wink; look on his face was a picture ;) I should add that everyone was incredibly nice to us, we couldn't have bought a drink even if we'd tried, and we just boogied the rest of the night away. -

Ha ha, Wolfe Tones definitely wins my *Most Uncomfortable Gig* award. -
I like to think of *Bob* and Alan Dale as the Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau of the EDF. But they are of course the ex Odd Couple. Could it be you retain your anonimity because you post from beyond the grave???

Libra, great advice on the chilli, the bonnet's cherry tomato flavour would work very well with a burger. I should warn you that having given sean advice on chillis you may now want to advise his granny on yolk and albumen removal techniques involving sucking ;)

I remember reading an article on crystal meth about 15 years ago, how it was causing real issues over in hawwaii, am amazed it's taken so long to get here. As a slight aside on whether or not crack is worse than anything else that has come before it, I found this book an absolutely fascinating read about the politics and reporting of new drug crazes, the fear struck into the middle classes by sensationalist reporting and the political capital to be gained from it. It is of course talking about Gin!! Well worth a read http://www.amazon.co.uk/Craze-Gin-Debauchery-Age-Reason/dp/1861976704/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196733094&sr=1-5

Really, really sorry to hear that Maximay, I can't imagine what that must be like. I have lost some friends to drugs (and cars mostly) as it goes, and it bloody hurts. Nothing I can say but my thoughts are genuinely with you.

Differnce being that Harriet Harman is IN office and not above scrutiny. Amanda's transgressions are in the past and she's worked hard to rise above some very tough circumstances in her life to get herself clean, sorted and educated. Also she's not in office merely putting herself up for it; whether she makes it is up to the electorate. The average joe in the street thinks like maximay, and I can say she won't make it into office. Mind you average joes also try to beat up paediatricians, but that's another story. As for putting your point of view across in a public forum, yes, we all do that here. But child killer is not an opinion, that's slander. Aspersions about her and Brendan's relationship is not opinion, from whence do you opine on that one? It's playground level 'you kissed her and she smells', that's not worthy of any public forum past puberty frankly.
-
At least it had the sensitivity not to use emotive language like 'killing people's children'. If you don't believe in redemption or rehabilitation then that's a very sad and hopeless world you live in. Perhaps the Belgian authorities should just have executed her, making the streets safe? Enjoy your Daily Mail...

you're all heart Maximay. Many of us are being supportive of Amanda because we've had the pleasure of meeting her personally. A more disarmingly frank and honest person you'll rarely meet, so I doubt it's 'a line'. You don't want to vote for her or approve of her, entirely your prerogative, but I'd rather you weren't quite so quick to judge her on the strength of a stabbing times interview.

Winding down for the holiday...chilling .....out Ebb - I'm All Made of Music ps, I think Brendan's colleague's elephant is in the video somewhere. Must have left the room when no-one was looking.

As we're in the film thread can you settle something once and for all char1ie? Do you surf?

Yeah, most of them do that _after_ they get elected.

Hats off CWALD, but you know I think you're great anyway. Mind you, good luck, you'll need it in a contest against a man with a name as cool as "Rahoul Bhansali". But maybe that's just the Hunter S Thompson fan in me coming out.
