Agreed, the clash were far more than just punk. But they were representative of a scene, the Specials were treading the same ground at exactly the same time. London Calling is a landmark album, but isn't the towering perfection of music critics' masturbatory fantasies. Originality, grounbreaking, spawning countless imitators, changing the nature of the music industry. Look no further than Take That!!!! I'm only partially joking ;-P

I quite the Drawing Room; yes a place where debate is still moderated, but can be about plastic bags, carbon footprints, inheritance tax etc, without having the stigma of being next to a thread about loony armageddon predictions or misbehaving owls and donkeys.

I still think there's room for a new .err.. room where serious discussion is maintained, but not necessarily east dulwich specific, leaving the lounge (which REALLY shouldn't be seen us punishment) to us 'old loons' to talk about whiskey vs whisky, music etc.

Fair points all. Its hard to find a balance whether from a contributors point of view or more importantly from an administrators. I think he's doing a pretty good job, but the more feedback the better. If you've had a look at the SE5 forum it's much more about the community, gets involved in local politics, is more tightly controlled, has much less activity and is really a pretty dull read. If the lurkers have a thing or two to say that'd be cool, there are a lot of you after all ;)

Have you thought about splitting threads off to the lounge and maintaining the on-topic pits in the main room, or is that functionality a bit iffy?

Partial to a Dalwhinnie, nicely honeyed tones with biscuity bits. My booze wholesaling and wine expert brother knows a thing or two about whisky. He went on a blind tasting with a bunch of industry bods and Bells came out top overall, so beware. Those blenders know what they're doing.

I can only apologise. I read the tale on the beeb and went to comfort the support guys who are all spurs fans and top lads (apparently it's not entirely mutually exclusive) and they showed me that story.

The difference being that many years down the road we're still talking about them, I can't see us talking about doherty in 25 years time, even if someone does us all a favour and does a Mark Chapman. I thought Doherty was more of a crack man. Tha main thing he did wrong was to believe he was a major figure when he's only an f list celebrity. Old rock and roll stars were larger than life and their careers were larger than life. Doherty was in a band with one good album, they had promise but weren't even particulalry famous. and then he went out with a famous chav from croydon...woopeedoo. If he were to be sent down for the many years he deserves or gets himself killed i don't think I'd even miss a stride. I just resent him appearing in proper newspapers.

Soooo the rapture index is dangerously high. Internet forums are abuzz with talk of the birth of the red heifer. There could be a galactic war played out here on earth (obviously Kennedy tried to warn us, but that's why they killed him). Bush's America is ushering in the apocalypse, as he's a member of the Illuminati. Nostrodamus and God, seem to have a couple of words on the subject, and I think you'll agree we ignore those chaps at our own peril. And this is before we even talk about the comet coming in 2012 So what plans are East Dulites making for the end of times? I'm thinking snorky's nuclear bunker could be good. Anyone else up to anything?
