  1. Whatever next?! Crack squirrels?
  2. I've heard of Temple Bar. Not familiar with that place though, young potty-mouth ;-)
  3. ...but the soul still burns!!
  4. Much as we'd love the future not to be doomed, I think correlating the science of global warming to political spin is simply daft. Climate change isn't a matter of opinion, it's real, regardless of how 'overstated' a case in a documentary may be, or how deeply energy producers' vested interests bury their heads in the sand (ooh, terrible metaphor usage)
  5. Come on, let's give mic a chance. It'd be funny if nothing else. I can see the campaign slogan now "Vote For Mic, yes he's a pric, but a straight football he can kic"
  6. Do you actually have _any_ leaders you approve of? And more importantly, can they kick a football?
  7. Even I, as someone who loathed Blair with a passion can see that that comparison is a tad unfair on the man.
  8. *bump* http://www.guardian.co.uk/renewable/Story/0,,1700302,00.html light the blue touchpaper...
  9. To be fair CWALD, 'strongmen' have a pretty dire record when it comes to exercising power!!
  10. Think out of the blue sky box apparently and to actionate repurposed monetization by some leveraged mind-share low hanging fruit, whatever the $%()?$ that is.
  11. In a "He's behind me" moment, I've a sudden fear that MadWorld's going to come on and tell me she's a management consultant. ;-P
  12. I've never really thought it was tbh. I think it's more symptomatic of parts of society (the business world in general, but more concerningly the parts of the public sector where the divide between public and private has blurred somewhat) with an inability to come up with reasonable value judgements. I feel the same way about management consultants; total parasites that need to be eradicated entirely from government and the public sector, and taken with much greater pinches of salt by the private sector.
  13. I take it all back about the drawing room ;)
  14. I have to say I actually enjoyed working in the financial sector and I like the city which really is a strange city within a city; good places to eat, some great pubs tucked around and about. I worked at a Dutch bank (soon not be any more but hey) and it had a pretty good culture that encouraged the idea that life's not all about work (you don't get that in the US banks) and trusted in personal responsibility. You can usually avoid the braying idiots, especially by giving the Pitcher & Piano a very wide berth; that said my liver couldn't take the drink culture any more. For the record I was an IT geek (gasps all round "Really?!?!?") so was never tempted by red braces over my pink stripey shirt with oversized white collars and cuffs.
  15. If we're going to get batey about excessive pay I might be tempted to bring up Blair's purported 7 figure advance for his autobiography. Funnily enough I thought there were laws in this country about not profiting from criminal enterprises. Can I drawing-room this thread?
  16. >People forget that for 70 years Enron was a successful company that employed and therefore fed and clothed a huge number of > hard working people. Indeed, when it was a real company producing a real commodity. Then it bought into the whole limitless greed is good thing (probably thanks to that force for evil, McKinsey & Company), people did anything to secure their bonuses, risk-managers were drummed out of the business because they didn't bring in an income and the rest, is as they say, history.
  17. I'll have a rummage for it.
  18. If I had MarioKartDS I would do so. How about for Advance Wars DS, one of the best games of all time. Zelda and the minish cap (yeah, old advance game, but still great)
  19. I know what you're getting at Alan, and also that you're being a bit tongue in cheek, but just in case people take it literally. So, everyone has a fridge, but that doesn't really define not being poor does it. http://www.poverty.org.uk/01/index.shtml So things getting a leeeetle bit later, but...
  20. > The only South African sports team I am properly up to speed with at the moment is the England Cricket team (who are not > doing very well against India at the moment) Ooh, I dunno, 5 sixes off one over. Heeeeeeey Macarenhas!!
  21. at 1500/1 the USA has to be worth 25p of anyone's money surely? Anyone...anyone....Bueller?
  22. My friend did an audit of La Salles bank a couple of years back outside of chicago. There were a bunch of traders who were busy slapping each other on the back and popping open the champagne corks, bought with the fat bonuses they'd earned for all the profit they'd made the bank. After looking at the very complicated financials and unravelling all the hideously complex instruments, hedges etc etc these guys had been working on all year, he worked out that the ultimately the bank would have had slightly more money if they'd just put the lot in a high street bank all year and sacked the lot of them. They refused to believe it at first but he laid it all out for them to see and they couldn't deny the facts. I'm not against banking at all, and worked in the city for many years. I worked with some excellent people and I worked with idiots who had perceptual hyperinflation regards their value and worth in this world.
  23. We were going to go to Roka, Zuma's sister restaurant. When I booked they said the upstairs was full, but downstairs was a more relaxed and informal atmosphere and they do the full menu down there. My brother thankfully informed me that it's basically a full on nightclub down there. I'd have been pretty upset paying 80 quid a head for the privilege of having my elbows bashed all through the meal and not being able to hear each other over the din. I duly cancelled and Tsunami came up trumps.
  24. Well, obviously, this is not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.
  25. > Surely Charlie don't surf? Ha ha, genius!!
