House Price Inflation Pros and Cons

If any of the 'laymen' are interested, there nothing too daunting about it. City boys love to use as many odd terms as often as possible to confuse people and make themselves look clever. Calls and Puts are options that allow you to mitigate risk against rising or falling prices, ie the right to buy or exchange something at a rate in the future regardless of what the future market rate is. Deltas measure the sensitivity of a derivative (usually a 'future' such as a call or a put) to changes in price of the underlying (the real thing, share, bond, coal) price. Gammas are basically the sensitivity of the sensitivity. All this in terms of their day to day job amounts to being glorified spread betters, with lots of clever people crunching numbers to help them do their job. Gearing or leverage is making money out of (mostly) someone else's money to help you make more money (hopefully). Hope that helps. -

If you're hedging everything to protect yourself, then you're only making money on the margins, is that right? What sort of returns would you expect typically? Judging by my ABN days (I was in risk systems), then losses of several million pounds was the norm. -
Ooh, flaming lips. good namecheck. Will have to unearth some of their bits & bobs for sure.

Forgive my ignorance. The stabbing times? Some code for the Daily Mail or something? -
House Price Inflation Pros and Cons

How odd, I moved FROM Balham TOO East Dulwich. They're not wholly dissimilar places. Shabby high streets that have spruced themselves up over the last 10 years, lost something and gained something. Apart from The Bedford their pubs really are soulless and crappy, supermarket options are worse, and they've more of those amusement type things that everyone hates. Only advantage it has is Northern Line. But I never felt any sense of community there as I do here, though the barber who was featured in Only Fools & Horses was a top lad. Not really worth cashing in your pad in ED for. Not sure how they'll upgrade mortgage free either. Prices are bonkers here, but they're absolutely ludicrous over there. Mind you, it is closer to Chez Bruce! Sorry if that was too off topic Mr Admin. What were we talking about again Mr Dale? Harry Potter? You could throw in Roger Red Hat while you're at it, top literature. -
Good stuff. I see you Crystal and I are agreed hat Chilli is always the best way forward. Can't wait for the chilli stall at the goose green fair.

In all fairness to our own fair EDkiwi, i think he may have been a bit tongue in cheek. Still, nice bit of greenery, and i love the japanese garden. But don't go there height of summer. It gets a bit like that scene in daisy miller where everyone ends up with malaria. -
Eh? Oh the "Gary Barlow" word! Yes, shocking!! Monica, to be honest I've bumped into him once or twice, and when not trying to pull mrs mockney (or vice versa) he seems nice enough. You never know he may be quite a fan of yours on the forum. He may even have a piscine moniker, err monica.

Quails for ?1?!?! Blimey, and this forum complains it's OVER-priced? I despair sometimes. That sounds rather nice as it goes. Any excuse to get in some calvados obviously :)

I'm pretty proud of my Harry Potter ignorance, or are you deciding what constitutes good ignorance and what constitutes bad Alan? -
Back to listening and I notice that Fopp seem to be pushing Bella Union music at the moment. They are currently my favourite music label. UK based but look far & wide for talent, including the marvellous Howling Bells, The Dears, Midlake, Laura Veirs, My Latest Novel, Ffion Regan, Robert Gomez etc etc. Anyway, they all seem to be going for between 5 and 7 quid, so well, well worth a visit. Today's (guilty) purchases: Dirty Three - She Has No Strings Apollo Dustin O'Halloran - Piano Solos Vol 2 Mazarin - We're Already There Laura Veirs - Year of Meteors My Latest Novel - Wolves Weeeelll, it IS payday!

Wow, Candyflip man (kelvin andrews?) randomly DJed at a party in our flat at university. Nice guy, though he did seem to need the toilet an awful lot. Perhaps a urinary infection you think?

House Price Inflation Pros and Cons
mockney piers replied to Alan Dale's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A quick aside to answer Muttley; talking to the remaining community that hangs out in the castle reveals that most of their chums cashed in during the early days of the property boom and went back to Ireland to enjoy the fruits of the Celtic Tiger, and have no doubt done equally well out of the ridiculous property market there. Mind you, if ever there was a bubble going to burst it's the Irish housing market. The US has already popped, Ireland next...you can see the direction it's headed folks. -
Methinking suddenly this thread was a bad idea. I'm now sitting at my desk with my salivary glands going doolally, with only fatty crisps in the crappy machine to succour my sudden cravings. That looks a delicious dish PD, thanks :)

Yes as i've said the Denmark Hill stretch of the extension is actually planned for 2010, much of the connecting track has been laid down and the majority is on existent track anyway. However there's a lot more to it than track laying. The GF's realistic estimate when she worked for TfL was definitely more in line with 2015 than 2010, much to our chagrin as I'm sure she's planned to kidnap me and spirit me across the Irish Sea before then.

Vickster, I really like the sound of that. Especially the anchovies :) Thanks a million. I'm beginning to perk up already. Anyone for a main now?
