Does that make Portsmouth a shanty town? ho ho. Actually I quite like that, a useful and flexible term. May have to purloin it if you don't mind ratty. I'd need to use the terms Sherbert, Larry and Spandexed respectively to achieve your sentences

It's a "Pain In The A**e" Polly. Franklin's can cope with the odd quiet night, it's doing pretty well for itself. I tell you what, I shall scour t'internet and see if there are sites dedicated to setting up online polls. -

Lol, no, we the photo gang (well the 3 remaining members after much drop-outage) It's definitely a 'done up' pub, but it's not over the top and remains a boozer, despite the thin crust pizza on offer. As conversions go I've seen a million worse in yer face nonsenses than this one. -

We popped into the Gowlett. Customers were a bit thin on the ground but it had a healthy mix of pretty much all of the above. -

Soooooooo, when we've all put our toys back in the pram. Any chance of getting some sort of voting rig up Mr Admin? I'm actually genuinely interested by this, and probably won't do you any harm either. -
Thanks Muttley, I know where I stand now (behind the security chain clearly)

You daft wee thing. Nutty, I've had a quick look at the Sony stuff on flickr and it's certainly capable of producing very good imagery. I had a snoop on discussions on the A-100 owners groups and the feedback is very positive. But can't help you as I've no experience of it myself. My advice is go into a shop and try hefting them all, check the build quality, weight and interfaces. You don't have to buy there of course. An interface imho can make or break a product regardless of the quality. I love the thumb wheel on my 30D and find using my old 300D really problematic nowadays. Hope some of this helps, have fun choosing and hope you join us on our walks some time :) P -

Yes I do have it and have been extremely happy with it. The 400D is cheaper and has more megapix and the sensor cleaner, but it's lighter and less robust. But it's only good for 10,000 clicks pre-service, the 30D is good for 100,000. Other nice additions include custom white balance and picture styles, better metering and other minor bits and bobs, but main benefit is lifespan. I've read good things about the sony, but they are pretty new to this, so with the canon you have the benefit of years of experience in the field, especially when it comes to glass, and a fantastic range of lenses. I've the USM/IS 28-135 which i'd recommend over the kit lens. Also just got the 50mm prime 1.4 which weighs in at about 200 quid and is rather lovely: -

I hope they're not raiding Keith's house -
I've often wondered about these guys. Their tattered id things have a certain neglected look of officialdom about it. They turn up in a van and blitz an area, and they're not mugging or robbing, and they seem pretty earnest, but seriously, the prices are daylight robbery. If anyone has any knowledge about this I'd love to hear it so I know where I stand in future (ie feel guilty for not buying a 3 pound jay cloth or not) And they really shouldn't launch into a tirade. A chap tried to get on a bus with his harem of four rather embarrassed looking girls, without paying. When the bus driver politely asked for payment (I'm pretty sure his girls were probably young enough to get on for free anyway) the lad started punching the drivers cab and screaming something about how he had to get ot the hospital because his 'wife was having a miscarriage'. The driver was wonderful, just sighing and rolling his eyes and waiting patiently for him to leave. The girls were actually mortified by his bizarre behaviour, and we had a good chuckle together once he'd gone. But both incidents - remember that post above ;) - are indicative of this whole world owes me a living attitude. I know teenagers are prone to it at the best of times, so am I just getting ready for pipe and slippers or is it getting worse?

i'm not even going to ask. That's utterly bonkers!!

I think he was ironically referring to himself as a pretentious gobsh!te as it goes. Where's the love people, where's the love? Oh, and I read the Indy which makes me a PITA par excellence. -

Indeed we can be many-faceted, I am a technologist who has worked in the financial sector (and plans to again sadly) but I'm also an insipid, affected, pretentious, self-centred, anemic minded, insular, left-wing, politically-correct w**ker, so it's a bit tricky. But I'm quite curious too nutty. Keef, I suggest we go with our breadwinning professions rather than our inclinations. -

Aww, that's a pity. If the rumours about CrystalClear are true it could be a case of then there were two. Perhaps do somewhere a little closer to home and leave clerkenwell for another night huguenot? -
* chuckles to self as last time spoke to crystal he was having his 'last' of the night at 8 * * wonders if he'll make it to the photo meet * * sympathises with poor DM, and offers lemongrass and milkthistle mango smoothie *

Sounds like we've come to the same conclusion from opposite ends. I spend most of my life complaining that sitting around a table guessing is going to result in a useless application that gets canned 2 years and half a million pounds down the line. I've yet to be proved wrong or listened to. And to keep it on topic I have managed to use those machines, usually grabbing one of the staff does it. And apart from a weird preoccupation with things not being bagged properly, they more or less work well.

I've never been so will have printout in hand. Is Farringdon or Holborn best for it? Mark, do we now have 2 matching lenses (once yours finally turns up)? -
As a professional technologist I take issue with that statement. The "as planned" is completely superfluous ;)
