Thanks for the replies. I'm still confused! I was driving from Townley Road through the village and down Gallery Road to West Dulwich and back the same way. I guess I'll just have to see. I think they make it deliberately confusing (like most parking and driving restrictions) to gather maximum income from people who misunderstand. And as the restrictions are school hours it makes no sense to still apply them in the holidays!

I really hope you're right! Thank you 🙂

I know there have been posts on this before but I'm still not clear and there doesn't appear to be any definitive information online. I've just driven through the Village between 4 and 4.30 and am hoping I won't get fined as it's the school holidays. There seemed to be many other cars going through. If fines do apply despite the holidays will they definitely be applied or is it a matter of luck?

Which pharmacy can give antibiotics without prescription
claresy replied to Angelina's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I got one from Sogim Pharmacy but I had to call my surgery first - I didn't have to see a doctor. -
Anyone know of a local knitting or crochet class?

There's one in Camberwell library. -
I thought the manager there was a woman.

Trick-or-Treat Friendly Streets in East Dulwich 🎃

I don't understand why you need to be 'financially able to contribute'? I was a single mum without much money but rustling up a witch or cat costume was easy and pumpkins and sweets are cheap (or you can make biscuits). One of the joys of Halloween is that, unlike Christmas, it doesn't need to be expensive. I agree that the marketing around it is not ideal -maybe there's pressure to buy stuff now. -

Trick or treaters (age immaterial, but costume important!) don't forget Lordship Lane - a number of houses opposite The Lordship Pub are ready to welcome you. Personally I've never had anyone not dressed up and all the children have been polite and charming. I have no problem with older children - when you're too young to go to pubs or parties and too grown up to go with parents you need to have some fun too and my kids loved it at this age. It's only one night of the year and really exciting when you're young. -

'Foodbank' street collector outside M&S
claresy replied to Castleton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Wondering why you've described a collector of charitable donations as a 'food bank beggar' before establishing whether he is legitimate or not? -
Local dentists branching out from teeth
claresy replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm not happy that my perfectly good family dentist is now 'dental beauty' and instead of a service that felt personal I have to listen to long recorded messages and fill in questionnaires promoting expensive aesthetic extras. I was put out to read a question that I thought said 'Would you like even more teeth?'. On closer inspection it said 'Would you like more even teeth?'! 🙂 -
Too many swimmers Dulwich Leisure centre
claresy replied to Jellybeanz's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As mentioned above there are no children in the lane swims and they are separate sessions. Lane swims are usually early, lunchtime and evenings in the week. It shows clearly if it's a lane swim or a public swim when you book. Sometimes there are teenagers, but only ones doing proper lane swims! -

You definitely can't 'stroll in'. You have to book and often well in advance - if you turn up you would only be able to get in if there's a space and you pay. And as someone else said you can come at any point during the session. There are no families/young kids in the lane swim sessions and if you want a quiet swim you need to book for a lane session! It's much easier to get a last-minute swim at Peckham but obviously not as convenient if you're in ED - and I like the glass ceiling at the ED pool, plus the showers are better. -
Urgent reading glasses - where on ED?

Also Superdrug. -
I saw a lettuce in Bora for £4.95 - and it wasn't gold-plated! It may be very pretty but the prices are unjustifiable and not everything there tastes as good as it looks. The russet apples I've bought were soggy and better in M&S.

My daughters both learned to swim at Tiger Sharks which would have been fairly impossible otherwise as I was a single parent. I also had some training myself there for a swimming holiday and learned how to do the front crawl properly! I hope it's saved.

Recommendations: where to get a bicycle service
claresy replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Another recommendation for the lovely and expert Josh at l'Atelier du Velo. -
I used to go to Brockwell all the time, but with lockdown it changed from being able to stay all day sunbathing and swimming to a limited lane swim time slot for the same price. This totally changed the relaxed vibe. It's also incredibly difficult to book online. If this has changed back I'd love to know. I really miss how it was. I guess it was an easy way to make a lot more money!

DHFC / Green Dale latest planning application

Oh - I thought this was a new post and a new plan! I now see it's from a year ago! I did comment before but understood that they still planned to go ahead. -
DHFC / Green Dale latest planning application

I love Greendale and would like to speak out against any attempts to build, tame or spoil. However when I go to 'make a comment' on the link in the first post, it says none are being accepted. Please advise. -
I've lived on LL (in the vicinity of the Lordship pub) since 1994 and have never been disturbed by the traffic. People are always surprised how quiet the back garden is. We have glass shutters in the front bedroom which probably helps but even in the front room which is single glazed I don't find it bad. I like being here because it's so quick to pop out for anything and you can get a 176 back from the West End which virtually stops at the door.

I dread putting air in tyres although I have no arthritis - I just find it difficult 🙂 One of my tyres was deflating really regularly and the Tyrrell Road garage told me it was to do with the wheel and not the tyre and as my car is getting on they said I should just keep pumping up the tyre (my worst nightmare!) as it wasn't worth replacing the wheel. I ended up doing this every few days until I finally took it to Wheel Power in Brockley. They told me it was a straightforward puncture which they fixed for £20! So have lost confidence in Tyrell Road although agree they're friendly and nice. I can recommend Wheel Power although not as local.

I think that people forget to cancel sometimes, hence empty lanes.
