  1. Thanks. They close at 3 however!! I?ll aim for a bit earlier. I?m hoping there?s somewhere to park. Silvester road was so much easier!
  2. Hello does anyone know the best time to go? I normally get a redelivery but need the parcel tomorrow and they can't redeliver until Saturday. Why do they never leave with a neighbour anymore? Really frustrating! Thanks!
  3. I have ordered a small brown bin twice and not received so forced to put food waste in the green bin, which makes me uncomfortable. They're making it very hard for people to be environmentally friendly just when it feels particularly important to do so.
  4. I'm also looking for one. Is there a problem with the one who's received a number of recommendations?
  5. You may be right and quite prepared to accept the dentists may be good. However I wasn't basing my comment on anyone's experience except my own -which was that I was unable to get through to them on the phone and was put through (following a prolonged and irritating marketing message) to a call centre. I also find the branding and new name very off-putting and feel they should have contacted existing customers to explain the change.
  6. Thanks for the replies - and pleased to hear I'm not alone. And thanks for the recommendation Lucy. I would have thought 'Dental Beauty' could have written to existing customers to explain the change at the very least. Zigzag, I actually misread your 2nd questionnaire example as 'would you like even more teeth' which did trigger a (probably not whiter!) smile!
  7. Having been a customer of Townley Dental for over 20 years I'm appalled at their new branding which prioritises 'beauty' over health, which is not what I want for myself or the message I'd like to give to my children. Since they've been taken over, I've been unable to get through on the phone, instead being subjected to a long and annoying message on 'aesthetics' and had to go in personally to change an appointment. While the (new) receptionists were helpful and polite, assuring me that health is still the priority, this is not the message they're projecting through their branding. There are plenty of places offering 'aesthetics' but I would have thought I'm not alone in wanting a reliable dentist (who hopefully will also make my teeth look nice) and not wanting to support cosmetic procedures. Can anyone recommend a good alternative NHS dentist in East Dulwich? I tried to post this in the 'businesses' section but it wouldn't allow me as said the 'exact same message' had already been posted! As I just composed it after going there this is completely untrue - unless by bizarre and improbable coincidence somebody typed the 'exact same' words as me!

  10. I'm desperately seeking a reliable and competent handyperson after a number of unsuccessful previous attempts on the forum. What I need is someone who (a) can generally come at relatively short notice (b) has good all-round skills © does not subcontract to other people. (d) tells me if something is not within their skills, rather than attempting to do it! If anyone knows someone, that would be great as the previous unsatisfactory people were self-recommended. To give an idea of the type of work I'd need, these are some of the things on my list (some more urgent than others): a bath tap that's not straight and needs fixing; s shower fitting that's coming off the wall; a ceiling light flex that needs shortening; some garden rubbish that needs disposing of and a fence that needs some repair; various holes in the walls (I appreciate these might need a plasterer rather than a handyman). I'd expect to pay about ?15 an hour. Thank you.
  11. A cat has been yowling all night in and near my garden (it has been around a lot recently). It seems to be lost. I think it is likely to live on Colwell Road (I'm on Lordship Lane, opposite the Lordship pub). It's most black, with some white and a red collar. It looks young. Please let me know if you've mislaid it as it's been keeping us awake and seems distressed.
  12. After contacting various people, I found Hamish from A Cut Above and was extremely happy with his work. Unlike the others, he came round to see the tree and discuss the options with me. He then did an excellent job with his small team, including cutting and stacking logs for me to use and clearing everything up. Quick, efficient, friendly and good value. His number is 07971055438
  13. I'm not surprised shopless Sally's makes money with no shop overheads - I was astonished to see they were charging 20p for a slice of dried orange at Christmas and sell flowers by the stem at inflated prices. I shall really miss Bonnies - her bargain bucket ensured I've always had flowers, no matter how short of money I've been.
  14. Craig Brown 07989 343136 has rid my house of mice. He is very conscientious, responds quickly and blocks up all the holes as putting down poison. Reliable and good value. Thanks Craig.
  15. Lamp post banners seem absolutely pointless. I can't think why anyone thinks they'll add anything other than a nasty corporate feel to the road. Also rather distasteful to spend money on empty PR when people are sleeping on the streets and relying on foodbanks (regardless of separate budgets etc). They're not even creative. I'd rather have some more street art. Reminds me of how schools like my children's spend money on supposedly 'motivational' messages around the school etc when the toilets are broken (but not visible to visitors).
  16. I haven't seen any improvements. I only use the pool but until very recently at least one or two of the showers weren't working or were cold. One doesn't lock. I found used nappies in two of the showers plus big clots of hair. And have also noticed the door issue.
  17. Co-op was Somerfield and before that Gateway. Fabric was a dry cleaner and I think before that a TV shop. There was a fancy Thai restaurant on Melbourne Grove called Thai Pavilion - and the clothes and toy shop mentioned above where Property In is was Hey Diddle Diddle that later turned into Soup Dragon and moved over the road, with yoga classes etc above it.
  18. Hi, I'm looking for someone reliable who can (a) do random odd jobs, sometimes at short notice (b) do some bigger jobs such as painting exterior woodwork, repairing a French door, fixing guttering and replastering a damp wall - at a reasonable price. Perhaps this means two different people, or one multi-tasker! Recommendations gratefully received.
  19. I thought I'd take my friend here to start her birthday celebrations by taking advantage of the ?10 Mon-Fri lunch offer advertised on the website. I was told that although it was a Friday it wasn't in fact available, and depends on the chef's whim. From what I could understand, it's a matter of how much food he has available (although the entire menu was available if you paid the full price). I explained that it was a special occasion, but they made no concessions - not even a drink for the birthday girl - despite this offer being advertised. (I was told the website applied to a whole chain of pubs,so might not represent what they're doing in Dulwich. However, only The Cherry Tree East Dulwich is mentioned on the site and the web address is thecherrytreedulwich.co.uk so that doesn't seem to be true!). I appreciate that hitches happen (although the mood of the chef seems a strange basis to run a business) but was taken aback by their lack of good will. In my experience, most places go out of their way to make someone's birthday special. It seems an unfriendly and short-sighted way to run a pub. The food was lovely. A shame the attitude didn't match up.
  20. I've been a patient there for years and agree Dr Stephens is lovely, as are all the GPs and nurses. I remember a very difficult receptionist in the past, but she's long gone (mainly I think to the complaints they received). Now I find they're generally fine and there's one long-term lady in particular on reception who is really friendly and helpful and knows who I am. I think it's one of the best surgeries and don't like that the new triage system means I'm sometimes sent to Lister in Peckham instead. But that's not the fault of the surgery, it's Cameron's '24 hour care'. Personally I'd rather lose a few of those hours if it meant that I can go to my local surgery where I know the doctors and they know me and my history. And for older patients, mothers and people who can't drive it must be even more difficult as some patients live at a considerable distance from Peckham. No wonder they end up with too many people at A&E.
  21. Me too. You won't be able to get a cucumber for 50p in Marks, or free range eggs for ?1!
  22. I would love one. Have sent you a PM Ingrid. Delighted he will be back!
  23. Sad to see charming little original artworks (just a couple of inches high!) by a talented international artist as 'damage by an oik'. If money the only concern a little long-sightedness might recognise the value of something so unique and beautiful.
  24. The same happened to tiny beautiful street art by the same artist on the corner of Colwell Road and Lordship Lane - there were three - two on the corner house and one on a lamppost - the lamppost one is the only remaining one. I spoke to the painters when they were decorating and they said they wouldn't paint over it - but they did. When I asked they said the residents wanted it. I can't believe they'd be so ignorant as to get rid of such a unique and lovely feature - and if they'd realised it's value they probably wouldn't have! It was so unobtrusive too. I loved it, as did my children and I wish it had been painted on my wall!
