parent and child spaces in sainsbury's car park

I don't think anyone would disagree that this topic is relatively trivial, riot or no riot. I think (hope)Selma would probably agree but perhaps she just wanted to vent - a good rant on the forum makes for a more peaceful homelife! It's not as if it was posted under an inappropriate thread e.g. 'I am so annoyed, the riots have affected the number of parent/child parking spaces at Sainsbury's!' The posts in the wanted section and the family classifieds are also relatively trivial. If you are not interested then don't read them. Simples. (Edited first sentence, as I got confused with all the negatives, duh!) -

There are, sadly, opportunists in all walks of life and these people are too selfish to see the effect their actions have on individuals, the community and the country. Some of the thefts were carried out by kids, some by gangs and some by those who don't fit the stereotype e.g. one man that has been convicted is a teaching assistant. Pathetic.

Just seen Annette Curtain's post under 'rolling news' - maybe Sydenham's not the best way out after all, sorry. -

I would avoid the routes that involve going through affected areas, as I think even cars with occupants have been attacked. Is the A21 any good? Perhaps try going through Sydenham (currently unaffected, I believe): Lordship Lane - right onto Sydenham Hill - striaght onto A2216 - straight/leftish onto A212 - right onto A2218 - right onto A21 Good luck -

rbrtdngl Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Police sirens in East Dulwich on Barry Road > heading up that way There have been a few police cars with sirens blaring along Barry Rd headed from the Peckham Rye end towards Dulwich Park end - is that the route they take to Camberwell? (genuine question, not being argumentative) -

advice on how to teach child to ride his bike

May make learning to ride a bike trickier but I bet it took the edge of the pain when they fell! :)-D -

However, I think this is the exception rather than the rule - I can't back this up with fancy stats, though! There's no harm in having a stop sign for those not familiar with the area and therefore, unaware that Underhill Rd has give way lines. Living near the junction, I have witnessed a couple of these accidents and each time the driver stopped at the give way lines. I have also seen numerous near misses and each time the driver on Underhill Rd was slowly edging out. > The sooner something proper is put in place there, > the sooner I can drive through it without a shiver > going down my spine as I approach with caution... Indeed, both as a driver and a pedestrian near this junction!

If I stumble upon the answer to our woes I will let you know! -

Sorry, no tips but if it's any consolation, my 6 month old daughter is going through EXACTLY the same thing. It's as if she metamorphosed Kevin & Perry style on the day she turned 6 months...sigh :( -
It's very common in the asian community to pierce the ears of baby girls. So, you may have some luck looking in areas that have a large asian population e.g. East Ham, Southall, Wembley. I have no personal experience so can't offer any recommendations but perhaps pharamcies in these areas may provide such services to a high standard (I would hope).

I've visited My favourtite nursery (Upland Rd), Little Jungle (Amott Rd) and Bright Horizons Dulwich Nursery (on the grounds of Sainsbury's, Dog Kennel Hill). They all seem nice and take under ones to 5yr olds.

Jennyh makes a good point. If you are taking your daughter for swimming lessons then check with the course organiser about the requirements. Otherwise, check with the pool you are going to. We started with lessons, hence we have used happy nappies (with Huggies little swimmers underneath) from the outset. They are meant to be a very snug fit to prevent leaks into the pool and my daughter has used the same one from 3 months to 6 months. I would still recommend taking your baby to a hydrotherapy pool esp as she is only 3 months and, I assume, it's her first swimming experience. If you do that then you won't need a wetsuit.

Ditto, Curmudgeon. Maybe the mammals carrying their babies on their backs should consider carrying their babies on their fronts to promote their communication skills!
-
Ditto Splashabout happy nappy - if you take your daughter to a hydrotherapy pool (e.g. Peckham Pulse) then you don't need a wetsuit (expensive and can restrict movement) as it's warm; I don't even bother with a swimming costume for my girl. Once you and your daughter are happy in the water then a wetsuit maybe useful so you can use the cooler main pool, too. Have fun!

As said in above posts and on previous threads, visibility is still poor and people drive too fast along Barry Rd. I don't think there is any issue with the drivers on Underhill Rd not stopping. Depsite the recent improvments, I still find myself almost playing 'chicken' just to turn left. If I need to turn right (i.e needing both lanes to be clear) then I avoid this junction altogether and end up using a rather circuitous route. James, I would be interested to know if any of the council members use this junction during busy periods. If they did, then I'd be surprised if they themselves didn't find it a hair-raising experience. If they don't use it, then may I suggest they give it a try?
