We've been up today too, just home having spent nearly 4 hours wandering round looking at the boats and soaking up the atmosphere. Thanks to nunheadmum for the suggestion. Planning to watch the event tomorrow from the comfort of the sofa with a glass of bubbly :)

Can I just point out that it's "Prickle", not me, who is posting on this thread :) (due to the fact that I've just glanced through it and become very confused, thinking "I dont remember posting that"...)

How do you contact the owners of East Dulwich Forum?
Pickle replied to languagelounger's topic in The Lounge
Hmmmm, don't think that's what that means MunDanity - my reading of that is that he would go through the registration process on behalf of someone else. From memory (it's been a long time since I registered!) it just involves following emailed links to register and activate a username. -
Be brave and within reason serve up what you're having. I've done this with my older two since they were little and have really good little eaters now. This week they've had an Italian style chicken dish, Moroccan lamb & couscous, fishcakes and beef stew. So much easier doing one meal for all of us.

Pebbles I'm totally jealous of your boobs, don't wish them away! Supergolden, it's hard to target a specific area, and I think running is a no no for you? How about those leg lifts where you lie on your side? Use a stretchy resistance band if you have one.

Yes, Convex the c word was a no no in our house, as was the f word. After 11 years living in the UK I'm definitely better than I was, and I notice it when I visit home. Absolutely agree with the direct approach, best to be honest with her.
-
I come from a country where ads on TV contain the word "bugger", so there's no hope for me or my kids ;-) My Dad (in NZ) was reduced to tears of laughter on the phone to my son last weekend when my son said "oh my word..." in response to something Dad had told him. In his eyes that makes my son very British, as a kiwi kid would have said "bl**dy hell".

Nabz, WW caters for people wanting to lose anything from 5lbs upwards. To be completely honest with you, only you will know when the right time to do something about your weight is, it has to be something you want to do, not something you do for others :) In my years as a WW leader I saw many many people who paid their money and came every week but didn't really lose much weight as they weren't committed to it. It's not a magic solution, it takes dedication, and there comes a moment for most people where you decide you ARE going to do it, and nothing gets in your way. That's the day when you stop making excuses, realise it is possible to fit exercise into your life, and that cooking healthy meals isn't too difficult. Anyway... I'm very very pleased, lost 1.5lbs this week. I also took my measurements last night, for the first time since March, and have lost 11cm off my waist, 7cm from my hips and 3cm off each arm. I can honestly say that for the first time in a long time I am truly happy with how I look :) My skin is good, I have oodles of energy, I've bought some new clothes. Losing weight and getting fit is definitely worth it!

Where to get baby passport photo?
Pickle replied to Special Chocolates's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I got my 4 month olds passport photo done last week at the newsagent/post office on Forest Hill Road, just up from the Herne Tavern. ?6, done quickly and lovely friendly service (and a very cute picture too!) -
.......where to get a peppa birthday cake made?!
Pickle replied to mammamia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I second Sainsburys - I looked into getting a basic Toy Story cake made a couple of years ago and was very surprised at how expensive the quotes I got were. ?10 cake from Sainsburys, son still talks about it ("remember that awesome cake with Buzz on it you made me Mummy..."), job done! -
Must be an error - they happen on the online database sometimes. Drop WW customer services an email to raise it with them.

Gina Ford potty training - does it work?
Pickle replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used it for child #1 and found it full of useful tips as I was completely clueless on how to even begin! We followed it, not to the letter, and he was potty trained pretty much within the week aged around 2 years 4 months. That said, he is now 5 and still has to wear a nighttime pull up as none of the techniques we try seem to help him stay dry at night. Sigh. Child #2 drove whole process herself, having declared just after her 2nd birthday that she wanted to wear pants. I was sceptical, but I can count the accidents on one hand, very very easy (day and night done at the same time). Chocolate buttons worked well as a reward for my son in the first couple of days. Good luck! -
Grotty that's a great average - think of those standard packs of sausages you can get and visualise that every week you've lost nearly 1.5 of them... that's 9 sausages a week :) You are well on track to shift those last few pounds. I've set myself a target with my running to increase the miles of my weekly long run every month to correspond with how many months old my baby is (within reason, up to around 10 miles, obviously when she's 3 I won't be out running 36 miles every Sunday :)) ). She's coming up to 4.5 months and I ran 5 miles on Sunday morning - hard work but I felt amazing afterwards. Hellosailor, I'm not sure on the science behind water, but it really does work. I've been drinking gallons in this hot weather. Regarding exercise, it's absolutely possible to start losing weight without exercising, and certainly when I lost my initial weight years ago I did the first few months without exercising. I've always found that once I start losing weight and seeing the results it motivates me to exercise, as once you've lost a chunk of weight you gain a lot more energy. I'm not sure how I'll do this week, am expecting things to slow down so will be happy to stay the same. However on a more superficial note, I ordered some clothes online from Next and had to send them back and get a smaller size :)

Oh that's a good tip nunheadmum, thank you, I'll do some investigating. Mrs TP - that's exactly how I feel. London is fantastic, but when big events are on it's usually so much of a faff to get there/find a viewing spot/get home that it just doesn't seem worth the effort. But as my older two are now at an age where they remember things I think it will be great for them to see and be able to talk about when they're old and it's King William's jubilee :) I'll try to push my "I hate people" feelings to one side ;-)
-
I figure my family in NZ will never forgive me if I don't make an effort to see some of the Jubilee goings on, and I think the kids would enjoy seeing the boats. However I shy away from the big events due to generally hating battling through crowds. Any clever suggestions as to where a good place to watch would be? Older kids are old enough to walk a decent distance, but we also have a baby who will be in a buggy or sling. Thanks

I noticed water leaking from the road on Lordship Lane by Mount Adon Park early this morning (seems to be a problem spot as I'm sure it's not that long since there was work done there). Assuming this is what's affecting supply in the area.

Sorry one last travel question (flying tonight)
Pickle replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We've had both scenarios, first time ever travelling home with a baby they let him stay in the buggy (asleep), but typically the time I did it by myself they not only made me take him out, but also whipped beloved stinky dog toy out of his mouth to put through xray. I was left with screaming 8 month old and not much help putting the buggy back together. Don't be scared to ask for help if you need it. Have never had to take babies out of soft slings through security. Try not to worry too much, although I know how you are feeling. My first trip home alone my flight from Heathrow was delayed, meaning I missed my connection and was put on a flight to a different part of NZ. My sister had arranged to fly and meet me at my original destination to then help out for the final hour long flight. Despite all of that I made it in one piece, once you're on the plane it's out of your hands and even I (self confessed control freak) just went with the flow. The flight crew were fantastic, managing to contact my family to let them know the change of plans and even arranged a new flight for my sister to the new arrival point meaning she was still there to meet me! -
I use cloth, have done on all 3 children. I get at least 3 hours out of my two part nappies (Bambinex and Easy Peasy's) and up to 3 from my all in ones (Blueberries and Itti Bittis). Two part systems are a lot more reliable due to the wrap going over the top of everything, but I do prefer pretty all in ones :) I've always found wicking round the legs the biggest problem with all in ones, but it's never been too bad. I do a prewash with mine, and put them on a 60 degree wash with bio detergent. If you decide to add a booster, try some bamboo ones - I find my bamboo nappies far more absorbant than cotton or micro fibre (although slower to dry). Good luck.

Can I take Ella's kitchen pouches through heathrow security?
Pickle replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've taken them through before, no problem at all. At worst you'll have to open one and sample it, but I've never had this. If they kick up a fuss explain how far you're travelling. I've also taken jars in the past, and there's no reason why they should be viewed any differently, it's all baby food. Safe travels x -
Well done! I'm sure points for ice cream don't count if it's hot outside. I did well again this week with a 2lb loss, just 4 pounds to go now. I went for a run Tues evening in the heat and am planning to do the same this evening (followed by a takeaway!).

never-ending shenanigans at dulwich baths
Pickle replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's true, but I went during a women's only session - to me it seemed a bit silly that they combined the two. It was shortly after the pool had reopened so maybe it's not so busy now. -
Not necessarily, I find mine fluctuates through spring and summer depending what pollens are in the air. My worst time is when the privet hedges come into "flower", horrendous, and impossible to avoid. Mr Pickle has had hay fever this year, for the first time in his life. I went a couple of years with no symptoms at all, it's very unpredictable.
-
That certainly sounds like the symptoms myself and my son get with our hay fever. I've suffered since childhood, although every year is slightly different. My son started showing symptoms at 18 months. We seem to be allergic to the same things, and the last few days have been pretty bad so there's obviously something in the air! I would see a GP, who at least could rule out other causes, and then may be able to suggest medicines suitable for a toddler. My son is 5 now, so we have quite a range of antihistimines available to us, but for under 2's it's quite limited. Good luck. I have my fingers crossed that my other 2 children never get it!

Last hurrah - ideas for a weekend with a pregnant woman

There's a Mumsnet thread on Centre Parcs that may be worth a read (I'm sure trusty google will find it)...
