  1. Then get a pushbike! TfL cycling gives 20m on fast setting from ED station to CC tube.
  2. There probably was resistance of sorts. But: - much of the capacity at the destination, C P, was waste once the place burned to the ground - bit like having Wembley's transport links now with no stadium but only a green space with some concrete dinosaurs; - the line is, as so many Victorian lines were, a curious one - it doesn't make much geographic sense as it went north east from CP before looping to the west at Nunhead; - it was in a very bad state through neglect - the wobbliness of the platforms at Honor Oak has to be seen to be believed, so would have needed significant money; - this was in the context of rising car ownership and falling public transport use. Don't get me wrong - as I live very close to where Honor Oak station was I would dearly love the line to still exist, would make perfect sense to have it as part of the Overground and keep the stretch on through Honor Oak Park, Forest Hill etc. just for West Croydon. 3. no, but it does go from Peckham. my experience is it takes an absolute age to grind its way to Clapham C. Get a bike/scooter. or would train P Rye to Clapham High St be any good? Sorry, Clapham geog not good. or P Rye to Clapham J from end of 2012 - not that that's particularly close in time!
  4. Have a look at the docs here, and send comments in.
  5. And try TfL's cycling journey planner - generally very accurate time estimates, and with slow/moderate/fast settings - if a little off with the routes (it has a liking or side roads that I don't share, even if you hit the fast option).
  6. Somewhat off-topic, I know, but, really, forget Brick Lane. Just hopeless. What you need instead, if you're round there (and thanks to the Overground from FH/HOP to Shadwell it's a lot easier than it was from our neck of the woods) you need the Lahore Kebab House. Was there on Saturday and so reminded again of its sumptuousness. Absolutely not the place for a romantic dinner, but once you've had those grilled lamb chops you don't look back.

Westminster makes an annual surplus on parking fines of something like 15m quid.
  8. Sympathies for your loss. I loved my two dogs dearly so can imagine a bit of how you must feel. I strongly urge you to contact your councillors about this, in addition to what others have been saying about the police. It's the councillors who can raise it with the local authority, who are the ones who can change the road in the future. I live on Mundania and know the speeds on Marmora to be too much.
  9. Bearing in mind that Olympics events are all over the city it remains to be seen what the options will be to get to them. Probably of more relevance is how to get to work - that may not be so simple, depending on what Southern, TfL, Southeastern etc etc come up with in detail. The modelling is supposedly driven by locations of people buying tickets. Normal commuter flows are supposed to be 25% down on normal for that time of year. But that depends on your employer in each individual case obviously.

  11. I reckon they've just naffed off to another job - nothing seems to be happening with the one remaining hole at the southern end of Rye Lane. What a farce it's been. Still, new road surface plus no buses makes for happy cycling! So selfishly I'm hoping the hole stays there, but when I don my needing to get to P Rye station by bus hat, I'm not!

I'm very sorry to hear you got knocked down. I'm a cyclist and I certainly wouldn't leave the scene of an accident like that. The one time I've been involved in one - a pedestrian looking in the opposite direction to the flow of traffic marched quickly across the width of the pavement and into the road - I stopped. But that takes me to the point I was going to make. I'm afraid to say pedestrians are the biggest danger I face as I cycle through 8 miles of London each way each day. They do the daftest things with no warning whatsoever. So many of them are plugged into ear-wrenching music that ringing your bell (and mine's loud) makes not a jot of difference. It's pretty much every day that I see a very near miss involving a pedestrian and some kind of wheeled transport. None of that justifies careering around frightening people, blazing through red lights, leaving the scene of an accident. I just wanted to point out that as a cyclist I view pedestrians with extreme suspicion and try to always be on the watch for what they might do next. It's a reason not to whistle past them at close quarters!
  13. Think I'd do it by getting bus to Eleph and then 100 to Liv St and then Terravision coach from Liv St to arr Stansted c. 11.45pm and then bed down. Don't know how near the Oground you are but alternative would be that to Shoreditch, walk to Terravision coach. Book the Terravision coach beforehand. They're run by crazy Italians but just as quick as Nat Exp coach and much cheaper. Train an utter rip off and slow - although obv not troubled by traffic. Imagine cost of cab to be pretty ruinous. Agree about sleeping at airport, partic if you can take clothes/small blowup mattress/earplugs etc to make it more comfy

  15. Thanks for the update.
  16. Hope you can mention the extension of route 63 in this meeting, Renata - it would plug several gaps. 17. Too risky a bet for me. The new bit is AMAZING on the bike at the moment though - the Peckham Grand Prix

Too unreliable for life really. I got the Pwhateveritis from Brenchley Gardens to Surrey Quays once. It was the longest trip of my life. New Year's Eve. I set off in 2010 and nearly arrived in 2011.

Definitely not Barry's patch - it's managed by London Overground I'm going to write to them now for HOP; suggest you do the same for FH. Not seeing the 3 trains makes it harder to judge whether to get a Southern to LB or an Overground.
  20. Hi Barry, Was wondering if any progress had been made on amending the signs at Peckham Rye to show destinations from platform 3 beyond Blackfriars? I think it's important to let passengers know they can travel right through central London and beyond from Peckham Rye - it's a great service. But it seems to fall between the cracks in terms of promotion etc. Cheers.
  21. Zeban - know what you mean, does feel a bit too far, doesn't it?
  22. Ridgley Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Very poor the P13 you are better off hiring a > snail Loving this comment. Southwark cycle training for adults worked brilliantly for me - and I'm relatively confident, cycling twice a day every weekday in London for 5 years now. Did the training about 2 years ago and got so much out of it. Can't recommend it enough. For bike shops, I heartily recommend and have no ties at all with the well-named Bicycle Magic, Greatorex Street, Whitechapel. Hop over to Honor Oak Park and get the Overground up there.
  23. All the P buses seem an absolute nightmare to me. I'd second the cycling idea, depending on distance and his keenness etc.
  24. Hardly Tory privatisation Sue = the part privatisation of the Tube under Labour which has just now been finally canned. TfL is much more public sector than comparable transport bodies (except there aren't any comparable bodies) in the UK and all the better for it. The trains are run by private companies, yes, but the amount of subsidy going in to the system is far higher than it ever was when it was all public sector. Madness, but there you go. What colour buses etc are doesn't make much difference - although I think it's a good thing - they're all run by different bus companies under contracts to TfL.
