I think that's why going into IT was good for me - uni education leading to a decently paid job/career where I 'made' stuff, albeit writing software and setting up hardware/OSs. Certainly, once I progressed away from that into more management type roles it became a lot less fun. And a lot less enjoyable.

Dunno about good lines, but an (English) friend thought it would be a winning move to try and convince a girl in a pub that he was a biscuit designer from Australia. I really haven't a clue why he thought it would work, but unsurprisingly, it didn't. Possibly in part because his Aussie accent wavered somewhere between India and Yosemite Sam.

Engineers/scientists/doctors/etc are careers as well as academic. But I agree that far too many people go to university. There needs to be other establishments for the media studies and tourism type people. Packing them into unis is not the best way to do things.

The Cidermen? Ha ha. You make universities preparing students for a successful career sound like a bad thing.
Problem is: who replaces him? Bell is the obvious candidate, but his form is hardly much to write home about. Broad, but is he really test captain material? Root is only 12, so he'll have to wait a bit. Has Ballance got any captaining experience? He may be, on form, the current first name on the batting team sheet. Other than that, is Mike Brearley available?
I've been buying second hand/antique wooden furniture of late, mainly because it is nicer and cheaper than new stuff. But there is a fashion at the moment of painting lovely antique stuff in sodding Farrow and Ball chalky pastel blue paint. AAAAAAAAARRRGGGH. There are going to be a lot of people spending loads of money getting this cack off in a few years once this fashion changes.
If only more people on both sides of the stupidity were as brave and thoughtful as this man. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/18/father-children-gaza-bloodshed-palestinians-israelis
