I have a simple rule - I never insure anything that I can cover myself (even at a push). As TED said, if people threw the premiums they pay on mobile phone insurance, boiler cover, extended warranties (just another form of insurance) and the like into a bank account, you'd cover all these things yourself (unless you are supremely unlucky). That includes excesses on things like car insurance - sometimes you are paying around ?100 a year to bring an excess down from ?500 to ?200. Terrible value.

I always consult the Money Saving Expert on such matters... http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-mobile-phone-insurance

Seems to be a bit of troll feeding going on here, folks. Starving them is the best cure.

and Eric Pickles and Anne Widdecombe. Hell, even Michael Portillo.

I think, as most people on this thread seem to, that neither side is exactly doing much to bring peace to the area. As Otta said, "anyone from outside of the situation that takes a firm side is a bit of a muppet."

That's a bit of whataboutery. I'm still wondering why people stopping themselves being killed by rockets 'turns your stomach'.

But, according to that article, that is for a purely defence system, not any attack facility. Or do you want to see people hit by rockets?

Whilst I don't have much comment on the rest of your list, the "Building Schools for the Future Programme" was terrifically poor value for money, badly thought out and pretty much completely funded via PFI.

I don't believe so - the feed comes from the Land Registry.

Seabag Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Having your beard trimmed by the barber, is a thing of joy. If you haven't tried this, then grow > one and go see Can't say I'll ever experience that joy, as my beard growing ability is probably best described as "pathetic", but when I was travelling last year I got my hair cut in Vietnam at a stall set up in a roadside market area. Not being up to speed with the price of a haircut I agreed a price (a whole US$2) that was, apparently, a little generous. So, the fellow threw in a full shave, old fashioned style with a cut-throat razor - my first one. I felt like a right lord of the manor. Well, if you ignore all the cars and motorbikes tootling past a few metres away.

I didn't notice, but the Standard has pointed out that most of the beneficiaries of the reshuffle have come from Osbourne's treasury area. It's really strengthened his position. Which is a shame, as I think May would make a rather good PM - at least, compared to Osbourne, anyway.

It was flagged a couple of days ago - an election next year and Dave needed to get more women into the cabinet to nullify an obvious angle of attack from Labour, plus to lose a few of the old guard that all seem to be hanging up the boots at the next election anyway.

???? Discrimination is generally divided into direct and indirect. Direct is the more obvious one, where a particular gender, race or sexual preference is specifically discriminated against. Indirect is where a particular criteria or policy indirectly discriminates, as it favours or makes it harder for a particular group. For example, saying you must be over six feet tall would been seen to indirect discriminate against women, as they are far less likely meet that criteria. I'm not saying that this is a case of indirect discrimination, but a lawyer might. My goodness, I *did* learn something from those damn online anti-discrimination courses my last company made everyone do!

Most European second-language speakers I know want to learn the British version (or International English, as it's also known). They still all end up with slight American accents, though.

Personally, I prefer to take to the treadmill in a mankini.

You want to try being a computer programmer - all libraries and commands involving colours force you to use 'color'. It's very annoying. I have always refused to buy 'Persil Color' on the basis that they are too stupid to understand that it is spelt differently here.

The bowlers are getting the runs and the batsmen are getting the wickets! Is this a new approach to cricket? Hopefully the Lord's pitch will be a little more conducive to a result.

Most software (including MS stuff and Firefox) lets you set the spellcheck to British English (or even Australian, Canadian, etc). Interestingly, -ize isn't necessarily not British English. The OED prefers the -ize suffix. It came up on an episode of Inspector Morse, once (who considered -ize correct as well).

It's quite the opposite. > We coooool right wingers, sorry, free thinkers, just care about antithesising guardianista windmills > in, you know, a tilting fashion. I don't regard myself as either completely left or right wing, as it happens. I'm a bit of both.

???? That seems to be the main problem. Israel think that dead Palestinians make a useful political point and Hamas think that dead Palestinians make a useful political point.
